He was the hardest puncher of his day but a pair of easy victories over Falling Floyd does not a great boxer make, that just qualified him as one of many who could respond to a bumper sticker which read: "Honk If You've Floored Patterson." He did have some good wins over a couple of quality opponents, Cleveland Williams and Zora Foley, but Liston was horribly outclassed by Ali and I thought those two fights exposed Sonny's shortcomings as a fighter.

He was actually a thug, but this was back in the pre Tyson days when thugs tried to conceal their thuggery from the public. Liston was an armbreaker for loan sharks before boxing, and he went to prison for beating up a cop during his early pro career. The cops ran him out of Philadelphia and the Vegas cops constantly shadowed his movements when he relocated there. Liston shares a distinction with Guy (Zorro/Prof. Robinson) Williams and Margaux Hemingway ...all three were corpses which lay around rotting for days before discovery. Sonny was the champ, he had been wormmeal for nearly a week before he was missed.

I had a cool experience with my smallpox vaccine. I had a severe reaction to it and developed the highest fever I've ever had, 103 at one point. I spent the whole next day in bed watching tv and saw two movies. One was "The Last Command" with Sterling Hayden as Jim Bowie at the Alamo and the other was a biography flick about Mark Twain which revealed that he was born in the year when Haley's Comet appeared, and died 76 years later the next time it came around.

That night I had this extraordinary fever dream. I was at the Alamo, one of the defenders, and we were doing okay, holding them off pretty well. Then I happened to look up and I saw Haley's comet in the sky and I suddenly knew all was lost. The rest of the dream was a terrified me being chased all over the Alamo by dozens of Mexican soldiers. I was awakened from all this by falling out of bed. This experience was enhanced by the fact that at the time, I slept in the top bunk of the two decker I shared with my brother. Apparently, being asleep while I fell made me relaxed enough that I wasn't hurt.

Harry Potter conventions
Pottites
Harry Potter the tv series
Harry Potter the animated tv series
The Harry Potter cast reunions on talk shows
Harry Potter pottery

Hmmm....I'd say the chances aren't bad. The true test will be twenty five years from now when some obscure cast member from the movies gets married, or gets arrested....and it makes the news.

Perhaps they could link up with the Port-A-John industry.

I would opine that the boringness of your answer depends on the observer. But since this is ask grandstander and not tell grandstander ...

Have you ever considered that a criminal profiler was asking you questions?

Does the beginning of the Beckham era bring you any excitement for the MLS?

If my responses generate hostility on your part, them it makes little sense for you to be seeking such provocation when you are under no obligation.

Three Stooges Curly vs. Three Stooges Shemp

What does the "S" in Harry S. Truman stand for?

I should have thought to include Larry a few weeks back when I was talking about the "also there" category of stars...the Joyce Randolph Award winners. There were only ever two Stooges who amounted to anything, Moe and Curly. Whenever you see people doing Stooge routines, they are always doing Moe and Curly business, more Curly than anyone else. Moe and Curly were to the Stooges what Groucho and HArpo were to the Marx Brothers...the funny ones. The others were always supporting players at best.

The "S" in Harry "S" Truman stood for "Sissy." Understandably, Truman just went by "S."
