One of the first dates I went on was with a girl named Marie and I took her to the fireworks show at the Orange Bowl. As we approached the ticket booth, some guy came rushing out of the stadium, stopped by us and said "You guys want some tickets? Free?" Well, of course we did. The guy shoved them over and took off in a hurry with no explanation. We were both concerned that these were crooked in origin, but decided to take the chance. We were more concerned when we found our seats and discovered that they were two rows behind the special box for the mayor of Miami...incredibly great seats.

The night passed without a challenge...great show, great seats...great price.

If something is free, does it mean it must be good?

Whenever something seems too good to be true, there is an excellent chance that it isn't true.

If my weight got to 756 pounds in July, how tall would I be.

I'd need more data to project this. Your present weight and height, your height the last time you weighed ten pounds less than your current weight and your height at anytime that you weighed ten or more pounds over your present weight.

From that we could construct a metric which correlated height gains and losses to weight gains and losses.

We have the data from general studies, but that just provides national averages. Which side of the data line your information would lie is unknown at the moment, but the typical American adult male:

170 lbs=5' 5"
210 lbs=6' 3"
270 lbs=6' 8"
350 lbs=7' 4"
450 lbs=7' 11"
550 lbs=8' 3"
650 lbs=8' 9"
750 lbs=5' 2"

The data suggests that on average, upon passing 700 lbs, there is something of an implosion of the internal organs and and the body collapses on itself, the spine no longer able to support the bulk at such increased altitudes. You get reshaped into a more compact version with greatly reduced height, but greatly expanded width.

After 700 lbs the average human can no longer stand, so height becomes the distance from the ass to the top of the navel.

Could Jacoby Ellsbury be the reincarnation of Jim Thorpe?

Does ESPN really think everybody in the country is as fascinated with the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox as they are, or do they just not care?

No. Thorpe has already been taken by Shirley Maclaine.

The above is a popular attitude, but in candor, ESPN is catering to the maximun audience, which is what television channels do. It's the biggest rivalry in the sport, it's typically showcasing numerous all star caliber players and the fans are widespread and highly partisan. Both cities feature media gone mad when it comes to the teams.....they attract enormous attention and enormous tv audiences compared to The Diamonbacks playing the Phillies.

So, ESPN does think that and ESPN is correct in thinking that.

This is a serious case of attempted Grandstander hogging.

My guess is that all 100 are from "My Dinner With Andre."

So then would you support changing the name of 'Baseball Tonight' to 'Red Sox and Yankees Tonight, with a Few Other Teams Added if we have Time'?

I'm all for truth in advertising, and if, as seems to be the case, the only things worth mentioning in baseball happen on the East Coast, and specifically involving Boston and New York, then let's label it as such.

If you are trolling for someone to shore up your mindset, you've come to the wrong store. I'm not inclined to join in the fray when the dustup is partisan this vs partisan that.

If there is a tendency to focus more on the East coast teams, it is because there is more of an East coast audience. The teams in the East are older and more established, the population in the East is denser, the media outlets have greater circulation, the teams are closer in geographic terms, promoting a greater sense of rivalry, the fans at the stadiums are more intense, West coasters tend to be more laid back, West coast cities have greater ranges of alternative outdoor activities, the West coast has more transplanted folks from the East than the reverse.

Go into a bookstore, check the sports section and you will have no difficulty finding five or six books currently available with the theme being the Red Sox-Yankee rivalry. You won't find any books on the Royals- A's rivalry because there aren't any. The reason that there aren't any is that no one is writing such books and the reason no one is writing such books is that no publisher believes that such a book would make any money for them.

You have more people making a bigger deal out of the Yankees-Sox and this is going to be reflected in the media attention attracted.

Live with it.

Hardly just my mindset, but good to know you value diversity of opinion. More pompous crap, but then that's nothing new, is it?
