I'm looking for an Earl vs Yau-Man final two and I suspect Earl will defeat Yau-Man in the jury vote.

Survivor is tinkering this season, trying new gimmicks. In that sense it is a rebuilding season and may or may not be indicative of shark jumping, depending upon what comes next. The have/have not gimmick was a complete washout, that will be junked. The two hidden immunity idols was a stroke of genius, its adds greatly to strategic concerns...it's a keeper.

Why is any remotely talented Japanese baseball player deified as though he comes from a higher planet? It's not like we've never seen an Asian before.

The Theory Of Novelty Adjective Bias covers this. When something is new there is a "new" mentality which distorts our perceptions and changes as familiarity arises. In the early part of the last century, you had people frequently speaking of taking a "motor vacation" which meant they were taking a trip in a car. Vacation was modified by "motor" because at that time, it was something new and distinct....a novelty. When such things became common, the "motor" adjective was lost because it was no longer anything seen as distinct or novel. At the dawn of the cyber age, "computer" was a frequently applied modifier. In boxing you had the "computer count" of punches thrown and that imparted some vague aura of increased accuracy even though in that particular case, the computer was really just a glorified calculator. We are coming out of this era because of the familiarity and proliferation of computers, but there is still a whiff ot it around....like calling the BCB rankings the "computer rankings" as if they were something more than just a formula and some calculations.

We are still in the frontier stages of importing Asian players for US sports, so we still are applying the adjective "Japanese" to those folks who came from Japan and that carries a vague aura with it. As more and more Asian players land ML jobs, the novelty will wear off, the adjective will be dropped and the entire phenomena you reference will evaporate.

Where are the one-million-plus soldiers who are not in Iraq? Counting 1/3-time rotation, there are no more than 300,000 members of the regular standing armed forces deployed to Iraq. But the total is 1.4 million. Where are the others?

Stationed at strategic points along the US-Canada border to hold back the barbaric Canadian hordes.

Let's break it down:
NFL Draft:...you are selected and go on to a highly paid career playing a game in front of huge crowds which cheer for you.

Military Draft:....you are selected and go on to a poorly compensated high risk career where you have to take orders you cannot refuse from people less bright than yourself.

Seems like a tie to me.

It used to be done by hand, but no one does it that way any longer, not since the stunning success of the Grandstander GrahamCrammer 5000 which can cram the same amount of graham into a cracker in 30 seconds that 100 hand crammers needed an entire day to accomplish. Definitely something that you want for all your graham cramming needs.

Not sold in stores...

What's the most bizarre question you can recall being asked in "Ask Grandstander"?

How can you sleep at night knowing the totally unnecessary technological advance of the GrahmCrammer has left thousands of workers having to make do with substandard wages and housing, all to focus exclusively on the interests of you and the rest of your upper class friends:

This was it. I was flabbergasted. My gast was flabbered...or maybe my flabber was gasted. I think it works both ways. Anyway, your question left me flabbergasted and flustered, puzzled and perplexed, shocked and stunned, dazzled and dazed, agape, agog and aghast.
