I do not because the team getting or losing the advantage has no control over who wins the All Star game. I would prefer going back to the old alternate years system, or even better, make it whichever pennant winner has the better record. If they have identical regular season records, then the tie breaker would be post season winning percentage or such. Fusing it with an incentive is a good idea, but winning the All Star game is a crappy incentive venue.

Why don't we all just take our ball and bat and go home?

phen:
Which of baseball's award voters do the poorest job? The Golden Glove voters are notorious for their frequent lack of effort. Which player was most underserving of an award that he received? Giving Palmiero the GG award when he only played a couple dozen games in the field was brain spaz of some sort. And no offense to Willie Stargell fans, but his share of the '79 NL MVP award appears to be entirely emotionalism on the part of the voters. Stargell had a lot of great seasons, but in '79 he was okay, not great. Which player was most deserving of an award that he didn't receive? Fred Lynn's '79 season was spectacular, vastly superior to winner Don Baylor's. That was one of those "Who had the most RBI? Baylor? Oh, okay, Baylor's the MVP" style honors. Or I could have answered those last two questions together, pointing to the 1955 AL MVP award which went to Yogi Berra for having a .272-.349-.470 season while his own teammate, Mickey Mantle, was turning in .308-.408-.525. They both played in 147 games, but Mantle had 5 more doubles, 8 more triples, 10 more homeruns, 7 mores tolen bases and outscored Berra by a whopping 37 runs. I can't imagine what Berra did behind the plate which could have made up for the offensive inequality. Last edited by Grandstander; June 26th, 2007 at 04:59 PM. |

You're just too cunning and elusive. You might want to consider giving yourself up. Life on the run is no life at all, always looking over your keyboard for the cyber heat, unable to trust any poster or website, constantly changing your user name.

I'm surprised phenweigh didn't know that every website administrator, moderator and technician works for you. How has that been kept quiet for so long?

That's an exaggeration … I've only changed my user name twice.
I’ve been to two wakes this year and both times the Red Sox were facing Felix Hernandez of the Mariners on that day. Is this just a coincidence or some kind of sign? |

It means either your attending wakes causes the Mariners to schedule games with Boston and start Hernandez on those days, or it means that whenever the Sox meet the Mariners and Hernandez is pitching, someone close enough to you to merit attending his or her wake, will die just in time.
