As a journalist, I usually do (worked yesterday), but since we don't publish a Monday paper (podunk town) I always have Sunday off. Sitting in front of my computer on days like that drives me insane, especially in light of the job search.
Several hours of watching endless Biden coverage on MSNBC, a trip to the gym, and my roommate falling into some free U.S. Amateur Open tickets at Pinehurst No. 2 have helped a little bit. I have some irons in the fire. Hopefully I will hear something Monday or Tuesday.

dlb - Thanks for information on freelancing. I've given it a lot of thought, and freelancing is the first career option I've come across that really excites me the way that journalism did when I was 21. This is my new focus, and I've actually got a little bit of work starting tomorrow.
Of course, this doesn't mean I can quit my day job just yet, but it's a foot in the door and I'm really excited about it. And if the freelance work starts to come in more steadily, I can get any old job that pays what I make now (which is next to nothing; there are jobs waiting tables or bartending that could bring in what I make as a reporter in this town) and continue to freelance until it becomes lucrative enough to become my primary source of income. Based on what this current opportunity appears to offer, I could pull down an extra $8,000 - $10,000 per year. Thanks for pointing me in this direction. And everyone else, thanks for all of your advice. Looking for a new career is scary.

Why's that? Don't want me horning in on your biz?
Truthfully, I'm looking for Greensboro/High Point when I say Triad than I am Burlington. And my current freelancing work is in Cary. So you're safe, dlb. For now. Seriously, thanks for the advice. I'll be in touch toward December.

I make most of my money in G'boro / High Point. T'aint nuttin' in Burlington. Really, though, there's room for another good writer over here (I met someone just the other day who was happy to make my acquaintance because, as he put it, "it's hard to find good writers around here.") And as I mentioned earlier, sometimes I need a little help, especially from someone with a reporting background, who can get the interview, make sense of it, and make the interviewee feel like my client has made him sound smarter than he is.
