Default What's on your menu for the 4th?

We are grilling out porterhouse steaks. No hotdogs and hamburgers for this crowd. You?

I just got back from Burger King, where everybody gets free Whoppers for life, using the coupon on the back of the reciept for the next one. I like to go there on holidays, when there are more interesting people there.

For supper, I have one more serving of leftover spaghetti sauce, so I'll kill that.

Sounds wonderful! NC sauce is the best! Maybe you and I should stick to talking about recipes and music. What do you think?

Hot dogs. Plain and simple. When I celebrate the Fourth I want my food to be culled from the cheap, leftover bits of animals from all corners of this grand country. Save the ribs and the steak for an ordinary day.

Also home made cole slaw, mustard potato salad, potato chips, root beer with real cane sugar, apple pie and ice cream.

Looks like most people here like Yankee food.

"Sherman's dashing Yankee boys will never make the coast!"
So the saucy rebels said and 'twas a handsome boast
Had they not forgot, alas! to reckon with the Host
While we were marching through Georgia.

So we made a thoroughfare for freedom and her train,
Sixty miles of latitude, three hundred to the main;
Treason fled before us, for resistance was in vain
While we were marching through Georgia.

We had the Diversity Smorgasbord: Sushi, Italian Sausages, Hamburgers, Tacos, Beef Lo Mein, Quiche Lorraine, Paella, Kosher Hot Dogs and Plum Pudding for dessert.

Well, okay, it was just hamburgers, hot dogs (not kosher) and Italian sausages.

Nice and easy. Hamburgs, hot dogs, potato salad and my wife made a strawberry angel food cake.

A homemade strawberry angel food cake? What's the recipe for that? My mother and father would have been married 63 years tomorrow if Daddy had lived, and I am cooking her a Southern feast along with desert. That would be a delicious light finish for our meal.

Angel Lush with Pineapple

1 pkg. (4 serving size) Jell-o Vanilla instant pudding
1 20 oz. can crushed pineapple, undrained
1 cup thawed cool whip
1 prepared round angle food cake (10 oz)
10 fresh strawberries.

Mix dry pudding mix and pineapple in medium bowl. Gently stir in whipped topping.

Cut cake horizontally into 3 layers. Place bottom cake layer on serving platter and top with 1/3 of pudding mixture. Repeat layer two times.

Refrigerate at least 1 hour. Top with strawberries just before serving.

You can substitute sugar free ingredients and lite cool whip. No one really knows the difference.

This is basically the same recipe I used for the strawberry shortcake. Instead of canned pineapple, I substituted a package of thawed frozen strawberries. I mixed in one whole small tub of cool whip. Instead of layers for the cake, I cut into cubes and layered the mixture in bowl and added another tub of cool whip on top.

Also, on the original recipe, when it called for 1 cup of cool whip I used the whole tub.

Enjoy

I had roast beef, corn and red pepper salad for dinner, and ginger yogurt for dessert. I watched the fireworks display over Boston from a suburban hilltop.
