I rented from Terry once. He's a slum lord. No heat, leaky plumbing, trash in the halls, roaches everywhere. It was a real dump. He even expected me to pay my rent on time. Can you imagine?

Nah, I'm sure that Terry uses the lease to protect himself, but also deals fairly with his tenants. Something any good businessman would do.

Why do you take that thread so seriously?

I didn't until a couple of hours ago when I temporarily became a self-proclaimed member of the Fanhome moral police.

The entire point of being an entrepreneur is the prospect of moving enough of somebody else's money into your own pocket to cover your investment and expenses and have some left over for yourself. What other reason could there possibly be? Success is measured by how much of that money gets transferred, and that is often proportional to guile.

This, though, is not a moral judgment. It is a statement of the reality of the economic system that virtually pervades the entire world we live in. You can offer any of a hundred justifications for doing it, and compare it all you like with other economic systems, real or imagined. It is still, unsavory as it may sound, a statement of the reality that binds us all to one another and defines out economic relationships.

If I was picking a fight with you, trust me here, that's not how I would do it.

I'd say put up your dukes and then bounce around like Mohammad Ali.

Okay, how about this then: I'd take off my glove and slap it across the person's face, and just like Bugs Bunny, I'd say "You know, of course, this means WAR."

I think that would make things pretty clear I wasn't joking around.
