Default 100 years from now who will be remembered?

in the world of music, from our generation?

Just like Mozart/Beethoven/Tchaikovsky are remembered long after their death for their contribution to music, who in our lifetime will be remembered like that? All opinions welcome, even retardtred's

Beatles - the obvious choice
Dylan
Elvis - unfortunately - he sucked if you ask me
Johnny Cash - maybe, I would hope

complete the list

I don't like Elvis either, but he will be remembered.

I dunno. Who can I even remember from the 70s/80s at this point that's still around and making decent music? Or who can I remember that precedes me and the generations still listen to their music today?

Aerosmith
Rolling Stones

Those are good examples. Any group who can play music for decades is pretty good at connecting across generations.

1. Beatles
2. Dylan
3. Stones
4. Elvis

I'm thinking that's probably it as far as cultural/musical influences are concerned. There are a number of others who will be remembered by music scholars as being influential. In no particular order:

1. Hendrix
2. Clapton
3. BB King
4. Paul Simon
5. Pete Townsend

Well, I think as a singer and a performer, he's not partucularly noteworthy. Everybody covers Dylan songs better than Dylan - from 'Mr. Tamobourine Man' on down.

As a songwriter, however, he's in a class by himself.

In my eyes, you're not a complete musician if you can't even write the songs you're singing. All you are is a singer, a 1/2 a talent.

If your B list has Clapton and Hendrix & Pete T on it, then Neil Young MUST be on it. He's made a much bigger contribution to music then those guys. Better throw Ray Davies on that list as well

The custodians of our cultual memory are all under 25. So nobody will be remembered who predates YouTube.

YouTube was created in February 2005, so jtur has just eliminated the entire 20th century.

I suggest to you there are plenty of singers that are magnificent artists. Yet they didn't or don't write.

All you need to do is listen to Eva Cassidy to comprehend.

Bing Crosby & old Blue eyes too I suppose if that's your kind of music. I think Dean Martin was better then both of them combined

Who?? Eva who?

Yes there are great singers who can't write a lick, but they are still only half a talent. As for Dylan, he has a one of a kind voice, that's what makes him unique Plus he's singing from his heart, he wrote it. This Eva broad is just singing someone else's tune. Hell, I can do that in the shower
