If there going to do it one thread at a time, sorta like an experiment, can't we start with the "ask Grandstander" thread??

I am curious....do our voices count for anything here? I see no support at all for the idea of moving the thread to some out of the way board which no one visits...and plenty of support for the idea of leaving such threads where they begin.
Despite this, we get no explanation from the administration, no list of reasons why it had to be moved, no list of reasons as to why it could not remain here....and no action of any sort on restoring it. So...what is the deal here? Moderators rule and tough titty for everyone else? Moderators make decisions and even if everyone thinks they are bad decisions, it is more important to uphold moderating authority and weakness cannot be shown by accomodating criticism and requests? If you are going to do something like this which no one likes....and there is a valid reason for doing it, at least explain it. And if there is no valid reason, then what is the problem with accomodating the posters? |

Our goal is to grow the forums as a whole. We are exploring through a beta test, whether having a top level section called "infotainment" would actually draw more people onto these forums particularly through search engines.
This is only a test. If we decide to go with this, the entirity of the BBQ would move. While some threads would be on subforums, the desire isn't to destroy the BBQ, but instead amplify its appeal to broarder overall subjects.

So you'd rather bank on getting a couple extra posters, who would feel out of place in a forum who's contributions are mainly from long time posters, then stick with what appears to be working, with threads that have pretty good activity. Makes sense...seems long overdue.

again, it only a test as how we can better market our most active boards to various search engines. If the test shows that the threads are read more under new branding, but with the same participation than it will be implemented. If the test shows that current posters feel that the name "Fanhome BBQ" is more important than the topics being discussed than the change will not be made.
I would love to hear the reasons as to why have the same topic discussed under a different name forbids posters on Fanhome from discussing it?

There isn't enough traffic on the BBQ to justify fragmenting what gets posted there to other boards. Keep it up and soon the BBQ will be a ghost board like over at Scout. Isn't that the opposite of your stated "the desire isn't to destroy the BBQ?" Further, there is no consistency being shown here. Left standing on the BBQ are "infotaiment" style threads such as the John Adams miniseries one, the Coldplay album one ...and....while the dlb thread on the Bible was moved, the Book of Ruth thread remains. Anyway, how is the test going? Looking at the "literature" board, I note that apart from the moved "What Are You Reading?" thread, no has posted in any other of those threads for weeks and no one has started a new thread on the board at all. Isn't that an indication that the test was a failure? |

If I tell you the test is about viewership vs. the reluctance of current posters to post in sections without their favorite title don't you think I know those metrics?
Grandstander, I am truly interested in your theory as to why a poster would refuse to post on a topic due to its location

"I would love to hear the reasons as to why have the same topic discussed under a different name forbids posters on Fanhome from discussing it?"
Simple, I have this forum/message board bookmarked so as I go down the bookmark list of sites I like to check in on, I hit this one to see what this group is up to. I assume there's a few here that do something similar. Once I'm here I don't go to the forum list and look through the other topics, I just check this one place. If I want to read anything this group of people has to say about books, music or whatever else you have categorized in another forum, I have to click a few links and search around. I'm not going to do this. It's one click and a quick scan of the topics and see who's posted and if theres' something interesting, then it's onto another site that I that I have bookmarked, and then usually it's back to work or check on my son. Maybe it's the quick fix, low attention span, we've developed in this fast paced internet media we have created. Whatever it is, the way you're setting it up, for me, it's takes too much time and it's a hassle. |

Thank you ba, I appreciate that. That gives me something practical to think about, as opposed to those who just insist that I am a meglomaniac out to destroy the community.
