After reading that article, it sounds like Blu-Ray was already winning out among the movie giants. Seems like Toshiba really had no choice in this. It's good to see it end quickly and I feel bad for all those poor people who spent so much money on a technology that so quickly went away. Reminds me of when my dad bought a beta cassette player.

Does this mean anything to those of us who don't give a crap about HD?

Watch the price of an X-Box 360 drop.

Tyler will be a very happy man this Spring.

Depends. With Blu Ray, you'll be able to get whole seasons of shows like Lost or 24 on one or two discs instead of 5 or 6.

I personally have no interest at this point in time. My TV only runs 720p, so there's really no point. I have rented HD movies off Xbox Live Marketplace. Those all run at 720P though.

DVD will still rule the day by a large margin. And you could make the argument that by the time HDTV penetration reaches critical mass, the technology for fast digital download will be ready to go (an HD movie off XBLM takes several hours to download). It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. I think this has been more of a gaming/fanboy argument all along anyway.

You may not have to wait that long. The Game Developers Conference starts today. MS is giving the keynote tomorrow. Its been widely speculated that they are going to announce price cuts across the board in time for GTA IV on April 29th.

Gee wiz, Simp. Nobody thought this was earth shattering news. Someone pee in your post toasties this morning?

I have an HD TV, but I'm not willing to be one of the first consumers to have to overpay for this technology yet. Flat screen TVs are a perfect example of that. When they first came out, I'd have had to pay $5000 to have a TV of equivilent size of the one I have now. Now I could probably get away with $1500 or even less. Blu-Ray will come down in price and my current DVD player will eventually break. That's when I'll be in the market.

I wasn't sure if this meant that everything was going to be blue-ray. The thread title is kinda vague. And who clicks links in threads? I mean, really.
