So bedir, I have been reading up on home roasting. I know that bucky is into this as well. I am not ready to make the financial jump into it quite yet, but I have been reading on line a lot about using popcorn air poppers. Sweet Maria's has good info on it. Do you have any experience with this?

TopCat, I just wanted make certain that you valued flavor over appearance. Your earliest comments didn't do that for me, later it became more apparent.

Starbucks iced coffee has finally arrived in Japanese convenience stores, in a nifty little covered cup with a straw and a picture of the Seattle skyline. Naturally it is more expensive than all the other iced coffees in nifty little cups - 203 yen. I bought one the other day, out of nostalgia for the time when I was young and grunge was new. But I'll likely stay with "Blendy" brand and save 64 yen.

Which reminds me of something, I'll dig through the older threads on the this subject, but I believe that Starbucks charges an average of 3 or 4% more than its local competition. Not the WalMart technique, but generally charges more.

Starbuck's ticked me off today. I ask for a no foam latte and the guy gives me a drink with a half a cup of foam.
Then he proceeds to scoop out the excess foam as best he could and in doing so took out plenty of espresso. Pathetic. |

At the end of the day it's those standards I have a problem with myself. I don't believe they have the "best" in mind, but rather "drinkable and fast" is the creedo. Sadly the majority of their clientele don't know the difference. I'm convinced that the majority of those exposed to coffee done right do go elsewhere. That said, I am grateful they have raised the quality of coffee worldwide by their visibility. Without their phenominal success, I could not obtain the quality of coffee I do, at the rock bottom prices I do.(I am not referring to buying their 12.00 a pound coffee. That a hose job. (I buy mine freshly roasted for about 3,00 a pound.) Nor would their be such variety on the equipment side. Hey and to be fair, they made me a ton of money in stock over the years. |

Oddly enough is that when a Starbucks partner makes a mistake it is the fault of the corporation, when an indie coffee employee makes a mistake it is the individual's fault.
Top, your final statement is quite ironic. As a shareholder how would you suggest the company balance the partner, customer and shareholder's often conflicting desires?
