This is truly a cool story.
Fans thrown off plane over Niall Quinn's Disco Pants 100 Sunderland fans were stuck at the Bristol airport after their flight was canceled after fans were "ejected for disruptive behaviour" and the flight missed it's takeoff spot. Quinn tried to arrange for coaches to take the supporters back to Sunderland, but could not get coaches that late at night, so he paid for taxis to take everyone home. Mind you, this was about 3 hours away. The worst part is one of the fans that was supposed to have been drunk, is actually disabled. He came here to the Pacific Northwest on Sunderland's preseason tour in 2004, and was a very nice guy, but has a bit of a speech impediment. A love Supreme SoccerNet article 14 Taxis for 300 miles costing Quinn about 8000 pounds, a whopping $15,780.

I'd heard that Quinn had done that, but thanks for the "full story". An amazing feat of generosity by the chairman of that renowned football club.
They currently sit 3rd in the Championship: here's hoping they can get the few points they need to finish 1st or 2nd, and get another crack at the Premiership. Hopefully, it'll go better than last year (3 wins, only 15 points, all-time low).
