Oilers name Moreau new captain

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers named Ethan Moreau team captain Tuesday.
The 32-year-old left-winger is entering his 12th NHL season and ninth with the Oilers.
''Ethan's leadership at this stage of his career is highly developed,'' Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said in a release.
''The intensity and physical play that he exhibits every shift is a great example for everyone. It's his voice in our dressing room that has the most impact and at the end of the day, Ethan was an obvious choice.''
Moreau is the 12th player to wear the `C' since the team joined the NHL in 1979.

The Oilers also named four alternate captains. Ales Hemsky and Shawn Horcoff will handle the duties for home games and Steve Staios and Jarret Stoll will be alternate captains for road games.
Moreau, a six-foot-two, 220-pound native of Huntsville, Ont., has 117 goals and 107 assists for 224 points with 832 penalty minutes in 685 regular-season games.
Edmonton's previous team captains were Ron Chipperfield (1979-80), Blair MacDonald (80-81), Lee Fogolin (80-81 to 82-83), Wayne Gretzky (83-84 to 87-88), Mark Messier (88-89 to 90-91), Kevin Lowe (91-92), MacTavish (92-93 to 93-94), Shayne Corson (94-95), Kelly Buchberger (95-96 to 98-99), Doug Weight (99-00 to 00-01) and Jason Smith (01-02 to 06-07).
The Oilers traded Smith to the Philadelphia Flyers last July.
