Our family went to see the Tigers and Twins in a mid-afternoon doubleheader in July, 1969 at old Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington. What a memory! Kaline, Northrup, Lolich, McClain, Willie Horton, Gates Brown, Killebrew, Oliva, Katt, Carew, Jim Perry, et. al. Twins were on their game, swept, with Harmon, Tony-O and Carew all going deep.

I remember it well. I still think Hart was a better GM than Shapiro, and I would rather see him back. I think Hart would have actually been a great GM had he been able to find a decent pitcher. For some reason he has never put much in pitching, and that is his downside in my opinion. I always liked his style of get them young and sign them for as long as you can. I guess that really doesn't work today for some reason. Could be due to teh influncess of people like Scott Boras. |
