DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings have signed goaltender Chris Osgood to a three-year contract extension.
Osgood is earning US$800,000 this season and was slated for unrestricted free agency July 1. His new deal will average close to $1.5 milliion a season, a source told The Canadian Press. The team was expected to make it official later Wednesday. The 35-year-old native of Peace River, Alta., leads all NHL goalies with a 1.68 goals-against average and is tied for the lead with a .932 save percentage while sporting a 19-2-1 record. All this while sharing the net with star veteran Dominik Hasek. Since returning to the Wings for a second tour of duty after the lockout, Osgood is 50-11-12 in two plus seasons. ![]()

Smart deal for the Wings. Just a question is Hasek's contract done after this year.
