The Nashville Predators ranked near the top of the NHL in penalty-kill percentage last season, while the Dallas Stars had one of the league's best overall defenses. Neither club, however, played up to its defensive strengths in its season opener.

After struggling to stop their opponents in season-opening losses, the Predators and Stars look to bounce back as they square off at the Sommet Center in Nashville's home opener Saturday night.

Nashville was third in the NHL against the power play in 2007-08, killing 85.4 percent of penalties en route to its fourth consecutive playoff appearance. The Predators, though, looked rusty on Friday night, when they opened the season by giving up four power-play goals in a 5-2 loss to St. Louis.

• Should be a good match up.
• I surely hope Tootoo gets a bit of his comeuppance in this one, especially with Barch, Ott and Avery in the lineup.
• More of those questionable goals from Turco...not such a good start.
• I question the decision to give Avery and Hamhuis game misconducts for their scuffle. If anything, Tootoo should have been gone for making intentional contact with the goalie on two occasions.
• Speaking of Tootoo, someone needs to step up and knock him out, please.
• Second period wasn't much better...no goals to report.
• Hey Preds, STOP CRASHING THE NET! You've interfered with Turco about 6 times in this game, and on the one occasion where it gets called, you sit there and complain about it? STOP DOING IT!
• Much as I've said in past seasons, stop booing Modano. You have no right whatsoever to boo the man, we have EVERY right to hate Tootoo.
• ...not too bad in the third, but they managed to cough up a third goal and couldn't pull the trigger. Here's hoping for a vast improvement in the next game.
