Looking to build off of a deep postseason run, the Stars open 2008-09 on Friday night with a home matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets, who hope reach the playoffs for the first time in team history.

Dallas (45-30-7), which has won six straight home openers, opened 7-7-3 last season, a mark that led to the firing of general manager Doug Armstrong. Under co-GMs Brett Hull and Les Jackson, the team bounced back and clinched a fifth consecutive postseason berth with a fifth-place finish in the Western Conference.

Comments:
  • Big night for Dallas tonight! James Neal and Fabian Brunnstrom make their NHL Debuts, and the start of the season at last!
  • Love Turkey's new pads, black with gold trim, very nice!
  • Avery's been very unimpressive through 20 minutes. Not ineffective, but somewhat out of it.
  • James Neal, by comparison, has played an excellent first 20 minutes, and thrown some decent hits out there!
  • ...Morrow missed an empty net...
  • MUCH Improved 2nd period showing
  • Morrow managed to slide the puck over the line to tie the game at one.
  • James Neal records his first NHL goal on a great tap-in off a pass from Stephane Robidas. Congrats James!
  • The Physical play has turned up a notch, certainly.
  • What was Novotny thinking trapping Mike on the ice like he did, and how was that not obstruction/interference?
  • Ah well, 2-1 up heading into the third.
  • ...uh...what just happened? That's about the best way to describe this third period.
  • Columbus come out with two rubbish goals to reclaim the lead, then a third to make it 4-2.
  • Brad Richards gets his first of the year off of his knee to bring it back to 4-3 (side note: Richards got the "A" for this one!)
  • Trevor Daley ties it at 4 with about 2:45 to play.
  • OT is VERY back and forth, lots of almost chances on both sides.
  • Rick Nash finishes the game.

Go Stars!
