Dallas Stars - News: Stars Sign Sean Avery - 07/02/2008
I DO NOT like this move. I've never liked Avery as a player, and while I understand that to have a player like Steve Ott or himself can be fun while he's on your team, I genuinely believe Avery to be a disgrace to the game of hockey. He ranks along the likes of Jordin Tootoo in my book, and I cannot find respect for a player like him. It's vastly different with Steve Ott, as he is a credible hockey player (I'm not saying Avery putting up 54 points isn't credible hockey skills, but that's not what he's here for) outside of his 'bad boy' persona. Besides which, with Barch and Winchester taking over the enforcer role, Ott has turned into a Mini-Morrow than anything else. Focusing on hockey first and standing up for teammates when needed. I hate this deal...

I'm really suprised by the Stars making this move, dont they have enough pest type players. I mean this guy is NO CLASS period.........guys like Modano and Lehitnen shouldn't have to spend time with a guy like this in their locker room.
Personally I think he is a puke of a player.. he has talents, but his persona make my stomach turn.

Exactly!
Dallas have Ott, Barch, Winchester, Crombeen (to an extent) and even Morrow to do the enforcing. Avery is overkill, and a roster spot that could have been filled by one of the prospects. Hopefully he'll ostracize himself and force a trade that will land Dallas a DECENT player before he does too much damage to the franchise. EDIT -- Listening to his conference call from earlier today. He even SOUNDS like an idiot: "You know, I think I've learned to Manipulate the line a little bit." When asked about his tendency to cross the line. Ugh. Conceited and moronic. YUCK!
