Default Stars ink Ribeiro to five-year deal

Are they on drugs?? What makes him a player that you make that type of committment too?

25 Million over 5 years

I can't understand this move at all, and we have a cap for what reason, so that mid level guys can STILL get contracts like this.

I can see why they did it. The Stars know that this kid is good and will continue to improve.

It's somewhat of an unfortunate circumstance -- He's the top player, so it's either give him his payday, or loose him when the contract runs out. The "logical" choice prevailed, and we get to hang onto him for 5 seasons.

So...yay...ish.

I guess I just can't get over the Mike "oscar award winning" Ribeiro for his antics over the years, especially back when he was with the Habs, and he acted like he'd been shot by a Bruin.

I just don't look at him as a player who commands that kind of contract.

I've seen that incident a few times before, and I agree, he has done some less than admirable things in the past; however, since his move to the Stars, he's really settled down and become a decent player.

Whether or not he's completely removed himself from the party-boy lifestyle or not, I truly don't know, but on the ice, he's been a model professional.

There is alot less pressure in Dallas then in Montreal. I think that is the biggest reason he is playing better.

Drury 77;
Absentees Things are quite different here in Texas with all the attentiion on the Cowboys and Jessica Simpson...phish, phish, that has come to an end thank Gawd, but Ribs is not under the intense spotlight that was shining in Montreal and so therefore he seems more into the hockey place of mind than in the beginning....hence my moniker, he is a favorite player along with the bulldog tenacious of Morrow. These guys can go out in public anytime, anywhere without the meltdown of being taunted mercilessly. That accounts for a lot of peace of mind.

Tripped a nerve there Habsfan84....the kid is exceptional with his comp9osed and confident plays...just too much pressure up there.

Which should be a huge plus in any Playmaker Book! Which can you deny that Ribs is not a Playmaker? At least the first one to come along since Hullie. 5 seasons is fine, if not, does he have a trade clause?

I believe he didn't receive a No-Trade Clause, but don't quote me on that.
