Default Ipod/Itunes issue on XP

Itunes isn't recognizing that the IPOD even exists... it's the 5th edition video IPOD and the latest version of Itunes...

The error message is not from Apple, however. It reads like this.

----

IPODSERVICE MODULE

IpodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell microsoft about this problem.

We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

-----------

I have tried to google the problem and the only resolution seems to be re-installing the OS, which is ridiculous and far from where I need to go.

IPOD/APPLE can't/won't help because it's a microsoft problem.

The IPOD works fine on the laptop, but not the desktop, which is where the error message pops up time and time again.

Anyone have any ideas?

Oooo… I’ve had this problem twice. Uninstall iTunes and QuickTime. Restart your PC, then reinstall both of the programs, then restart your PC. It should work after that.

Been there, done that - more than once.

I should note that the IPOD has never been recognized. It wasn't working fine at any time and then all of a sudden the error message started appearing.
