Default Tomato and Linksys firmware

I looked over the new issue of Maximum PC and saw they suggested a third party firmware for Linksys routers, called Tomato. I was wondering if anyone had already "hacked" their router with this and if so -- how much easier / clear is the firmware compared to the OEM stuff from Linksys?
