Not sure if this goes here or not, but I didn't see a thread that it made sense to put it in, so...
Anyway, this is courtesy of Rotoworld today: Colorado - After trying and failing to make a deal for Todd Helton in the offseason, the Angels have reportedly set their sights on either Garrett Atkins or Brad Hawpe as they attempt to boost their offense. Ervin Santana would almost certainly be part of the price for Atkins. The Rockies would likely be more open to parting with Hawpe, though he'd bring in less talent. Left-hander Joe Saunders and a lesser prospect for Hawpe would make sense. If the Rockies do make a trade, it'd probably be for someone who would go right into the rotation, meaning Josh Fogg could get sent to the bullpen... Thoughts? Ian Stewart would finally get a shot in Denver, Fogg would be bumped to the pen in favor of Santana in a major upgrade and there could be another prospect coming back in return as well. I doubt this happens (at least not anytime soon) but it's interesting. |

it makes more sense to trade Hawpe. Don't move Stewart to RF though. If anything, I think Helton is traded this offseason with Stewart taking over 3B and Atkins moving over to 1B. Replacements for Hawpe could be Seth Smith, Sean Barker, and Jeff Baker.
Joe Saunders would be an interesting name to get in a deal with Hawpe. What else would Hawpe bring? Nobody outside of Santana, Wood, Aybar, and Adenhart are that intriguing, and all but Aybar are probably not going anywhere unless its for a big-time player. |

While I have a little concern with Stewart's bat this season, his defense HAS to be better than Atkins has exhibited so far this year.
I would rather trade Stewart than Hawpe, and I don't want to see Stewart traded anytime soon. Hawpe throwing out the runner today is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Doubling the guy off 1B, or preventing the runner from scoring from 2B on a single can only be done with a strong-armed RF. Does anyone know if Stewart has the same cannon as Hawpe? |

The Angels have already moved Wood off of SS and have been playing him at 3B. He's a big kid at 6'3" and 190.
Heltonfan, why do you think he'd be able to play CF? For the record, his given name is Richard Brandon Wood. Someone needs to convince him to go by "Dick Wood"... |

2008 scorecard: Tavares (sp), Willy Wood, Dick Helton, Todd ... .. BTW, I think the purplerow folks were speculating that Wood could have a future at 2B. I think everyone believes he's not a future SS, but 2B certainly seems possible. |

According to ESPN: The Worldwide Leader In Sports the Yankees have expressed interest in Todd Helton & Brian Fuentes, though no deal is imminent. It's on the front page under their Rumor Central section, but you have to have insider to read the article.
