I am getting a little pissed.
If we are going to start AAAA Barmes, then we need to send Tulo down so he can get some contestant at bats. All we gain from him riding the pine is a year of service time. I swear Barmes must have some pictures or something... There is a giant Hurdle between us and being competitive this year |

Barmes has the right first name. That's why Clint is starting him every night.
Seriously, though, I can't understand why we are carrying Tulo and Iannetta on the roster anymore if their backups are going to get the bulk of the playing time. It's not like Torrealba or Barmes are hitting the cover off the ball. This will only serve to retard their development, not enhance it. |

Drew, Iannetta has all of 31 ABs this season! You trying to tell us that's predictive of anything?
Meanwhile, Torrealba has 36 ABs going into tonight's game, and is 0 for 3 tonight. And you were saying.....??? |

I just flipped on the TV and saw one of those 3 Rockies promo spots -- the one where Helton nails Dinger with a HR.
With the way they're playing, those spots are getting old real fast. Should they re-shoot the spot with Helton saying "That one's got warning track written all over it?" Or perhaps "Fuentes blows everything?" [I know, that was very, very bad] |

i dont try to predict trends, obviously that is "too small of a sample size" i will leave that to the statheads. i am saying that yorvit has a higher batting average than ianetta, not to mention he has a higher OBP. IMO, he is hitting better right now. yorvit also has 9 RBI's in those 36 AB's Last edited by indianadrew; 04-23-2007 at 09:51 PM. |

I'm ok with Iannetta and Torrealba flip-flopping on starter vs. backup, since a backup catcher is going to get a couple starts a week anyway. And Iannetta completely dominated in the minors last year, so I think there's no purpose to sending him down.
Tulo? As HF pointed out, the goal should be to delay his arbitration/free agency clock IF he's not performing well. And clearly he didn't dominate at the plate in the minors last year, so I think he could benefit from anywhere from one month to four months in the Springs. And Spilborghs simply needs to be up here and out in CF at least half time. Why? Well, he's been mashing at AAA in his last couple stints there. You need to see (1) if that translates to the majors, and more importantly (2) whether he is a viable option for the future in CF. In very limited time in CF last year, his Zone Rating was poor -- about 100 points below Cory Sullivan, for example. If he's really that poor in CF, he's a very marginal prospect. If he can put up a better showing over a larger CF defensive sample, and if he can hit as expected, he's relatively valuable. Two things we should all agree on: (1) Finley doesn't figure in our future plans; (2) We've all seen what Tavares is capable of (even when he's going well), and it isn't good enough to be satisfied with him as the CFer going forward. Wake up, Hurdle and O'Dowd: this club is not a competitor in '07. Period. |

AVG is a meaningful stat with 30-something ABs? That's news to me. Yorvit is hitting better right now? His OPS was .550 before tonight, and was .250 tonight (OBP of .250 and SLG of .000). Higher OBP? Yorvit is around .260 and Chris is .243, so there isn't much difference there. Again, such stats don't matter with so few ABs. And if you think Yorvit is more "clutch" with 9 RBI, well I guess we have nothing left to discuss. |

i am sorry if my opinion is diffrent than yours, but hey i thought differing opinions were allowed. i guess hurdle should have figured that yorvit was going to have an off night. damm him for not be psycic. Last edited by indianadrew; 04-23-2007 at 10:15 PM. |

Differing opinions are allowed. Absurd and baseless opinions based on tiny samples need not go unquestioned, however. Your comment about Yorvit hitting better than Iannetta right now seems rather baseless to me, given the playing time of the two players thus far.

I don't think any stats are needed to believe drew's obviously valid point about Torrealba vs. Iannetta at the plate currently. Things may change obviously as the season goes along, but the majority of fans watching the games I believe would feel the same way understandably.

I enjoyed Barmes 0-4 with 4 strikeouts night.... proved to me even more how much of an idiot Hurdle is. Hell I bet Tulo puts the ball in play in at least one of the at bats.... but know our number one prospect gets to rot on the bench, while Barmes provides air conditioning for the umpire and catcher...
I ****ing hate anything named Clint. |
