No. No. No. Never. Basing decisions off 15-AB samples is the height of idiocy. I cannot overemphasize how meaningless those numbers are.

Given that Helton is going to rest for a certain number of games (which, at this point in his career, I don't object to), the only requirement I have is that he get those days off against left-handed pitching. That's just common sense.

Point taken, although with pitchers like Penny, Webb, Schmidt, Johnson, Peavy and Lowe, just to name the prominant starters in our division, Helton has probably faced them about 35-50 times in his career, rather than 15.

My main point is that Helton's days off should not be mapped out ahead of time. If there is a 2 or 3 week stretch where we do not have days off, fine, go ahead and plan to have him rest for a day game. Otherwise, look at matchups, be it individual or lefty vs. righty, or how Helton is hitting at a particual time.
