BigRapidsJackass will become famous soon enough
Default If I threw away money like this, would I still have a job?

Brian Lawrence: on waivers. If he's not claimed, the Rox are out $750,000.

BK Kim: hanging by a thread. If nobody wants him, the Rox will eat $2.5 million.

Tom Martin: a fake injury is the only thing that kept the Rox from eating his $750,000

LaTroy Hawkins: we now have a $3.5 million mop-up man. Since those can ordinarily be found for the league minimum, let's call this a $3 million waste.

Correct me if I'm wrong here: Dan O'Dowd just threw away $7.5 million this offseason. Two of these guys may not throw a single pitch for the Rockies, one of them threw about 6 innings (Kim), and one of them threw a handful of HR balls (Hawkins) and is now relegated to the seat on the bullpen bench just to the left of some 28 year old AAA player named Zach.

Correct me if I'm wrong here: Dan O'Dowd just got a two-year contract extension.

EDIT: Dave Roberts, 2nd Coors triple in 2 games. No, we couldn't afford his $4.5 million salary. Besides, Willy Tavares is almost as good for 1/10th the price ... I mean, he is almost as good, isn't he? What do you mean he isn't?? Dan O'Dowd must know, by the time his contract runs out he'll have been a GM for 10 years, right?

That Lawrence decision really surprised me. I read today in the post that he would have willingly went to the bullpen. It seems for an extra 250K we should have kept him around.

Taveras is almost as good as Roberts. Come on. The guy takes cat naps, power naps while leading off base. He's a multi-tasker. Not everyone can do that.

I guess he got picked off because he was unaccustomed to being on first. Strange territory for WT.

Hard to argue with your post, BRJ. I guess this is why O'Dud is rated the
29th worst GM in baseball. The question is who was rated worse? I think they should take the poll again!

I was surprised about Brian Lawrence too.

But we won, right, on a bases loaded double off Linden's glove. Game of inches...

Hey, don't forget about Steve Finley. We have both Finley and Tavares. Two players instead of one. Besides, all you need to do is ask Drew Goodman and George Frazier about Finley and they will tell you how "professional" he is.

What they both forget is that he is 42 (?) year old CF who has lost more than a step or two and who gets fewer hits than I get slaps at the local bar

Other than Martin those were all reasonable gambles for a club with a reasonable payroll to make.

The problem is that we don't have a reasonable payroll and instead of spending that money for depth and giving ourselves options we were depriving ourselves of much needed additions (like Roberts).
