For those who focus on Hurdle being stuborn and inflexible as things go bad, he's removed the pricey off-season setup man from his 8th inning role now. For someone they had put a lot of personnel decision-making faith and investment into at a self-described critical area, that was a fairly quick change in mid-April.
I didn't view Zito as drastically negative as most (not just here but also in most analytical places). Wish he wasn't doing it against us tonight, but believe he'll see more nights like tonight throughout the rest of the season in making the favorable switch to the NL. |

Well, if you're going to throw a stinker, Jeff Francis, you might as well do it on a night when your offense is getting shut out.
What's bothering me now: if Hurdle hadn't gotten that idiotic contract extension, I'd be getting pretty pumped up right about now, waiting for the axe to come down. As it is, Monfort has given me absolutely no reason to even pay attention. |

Newman, I just don't get that 7th/8th inning distinction. If the Rockies are ahead after 6, is it somehow better lose the lead in the 7th instead of the 8th? So LaTroy will blow the lead in the 7th, and then Hurdle won't even need to use his setup guy, Corpas, at all?
In other words, if Hurdle believes LaTroy is pitching like crap, shouldn't LaTroy be relegated to middle relief or mop-up roles? |

Hey, Hurdle got the extension, right? He must know what he's doing?
Yeah, when exactly is the right time to insert Hawkins so he can blow the lead? Damn good question. We could save money by cutting LaTroy and using the batting practice pitcher in the 7th? Just a thought. I don't understand why Hurdle played Hawpe in RF yesterday instead of righty hitting Baker. Zito has one of the best curveballs in baseball. Granted Hawpe got a hit and Baker was 0-5 the day before, but still? But Hurdle is our manager for life. Who are we to question his moves? |

The Cooler says "Now is not the time to panic". Announced crowd of 18,000 last night looked more like 4 or 5 thousand. The Monfort's killed the golden goose and are now pissing on the grave. I normally go to 5 or 6 games a year but the Monfort's will get no more of my money. The Rockies have become irrelevant. I love the game so will continue to watch the development of the youngsters but I don't think the Rockies will have a winning record anytime soon with this bunch of Bozos running the show.

Well, I had all kinds of sarcastic things to say about this team and this game tonight, but now I will have to save them for another time. That was a good win and a nice comeback, something we have shown absolutely no ability to do until this point.

About time for the bats to bust out. For a while there I was afraid that Tavares getting picked off would be the difference in this game. And how 'bout that Steve Finley ...
... that Tulo leaping grab in the 9th was beautiful. |

Speaking of the Tavares nap, why is it that the Rockies seem to always do stupid things? We get picked off base, pitchers ignore base runners, hitters swing at the first pitch in important situations, outfielders (mostly Holiday) throw to the wrong base, bunt attempts are frequently popped up?
I know I blame Hurdle for a lot of things, but isn't it ultimately the managers job to teach the players the correct way to play the game? Or, at the very least, shouldn't he hold them accountable for their mistakes? |
