Just to start a thread for the series.
I have to admit I'm an idiot. My Wife wanted to change to Dish, and I let her. Now, I don't have FSRM so I can't watch the games that are broadcast there. In lieu of that, I've been watching the games on Yahoo (yes they're delayed, but they're free). When I miss the game, I go look at the Box and the recap. One of the things I've noticed is that no matter who won the game, Yahoo has been leading their recap with the other team. Tonight, they led with the Rockies. Maybe they're getting a little attention finally. |

I'm not liking this new emphasis on base stealing at the top of the order. Tavares amazingly works a walk after falling behind 0-2, and then tries to steal with a 1-2 count on Kaz Mat. Pitchout: caught stealing. Kaz Mat: K. 2 outs, nobody on.
Bring back the Bunt Hungry Maniac! (Better still, bring up Spilborghs or someone who actually has a bit of pop in his bat.) EDIT: Warning Track Todd has also made two appearances today. The standard explanation: "ooh, he just got a little bit under that one." True, but so is this: "The pre-2005 version of Todd Helton would have had 2 HRs tonight." We have someone with pop in his bat, supposedly, in Todd Helton. His last two ABs have been with runners on, and he has smashed the ball to the warning track each time. He's now hitting .259 with 0 homers.
Todd Helton is showing that prodigious warning track power, though. I'm excited! |

Hawpe doubles, runner on 2nd, one out, Tulo and Torrealba due up.
Isn't this why John Mabry is on the roster? I mean, I don't really like him, but chances are the Rox won't get an RBI situation in which a pinch hitter is indicated the rest of the night. EDIT: Nevermind. Last edited by BigRapidsJackass; 04-10-2007 at 10:49 PM. Reason: I'm an idiot and Clint is a genius. |

Seems like a typical Dodger Stadium game to me... I'm happy ANYONE is putting up extra-base hits after the last few games...
I will salute Rockies brass for this... SPs seem to be continuing last year's pattern of keeping these games tight a lot longer... so much more compelling to watch than the Blake Street Bomber dog and pony shows used to be. |

Oh my goodness. We TIE the game 1-1 on Torrealba's clutch 2 out single, and then The Cooler PULLS Lopez anyway??? With 2 outs and a runner at 1st??? Lopez, FYI, threw a grand total of 68 pitches.
Now we have to hold our breath with Kim against Gonzo. EDIT: Kim goes 1-2-3, getting two lefties out. Makes Hurdle look smart. I still don't like pulling a starter who's pitching well in a tie game when his pitch count is at 68. Last edited by Roxpert; 04-10-2007 at 10:58 PM. |

Roxpert, the Cooler can do no wrong today. He puts in Kim with 2 left handed hitters coming up .... and it works!
Another way of looking at it: Hurdle has zero confidence in Jeremy Affeldt. Willy T. bunts ... saw that one coming. Make the big heavy pitcher get off the mound. It doesn't work. These close games are keeping me up way too late every night. |

Now, we get to see if our cleanup hitter and power stud, Todd Helton, can give us a lead against a lefty pitcher. I predict another warning track out.
EDIT: Of course, I predict wrong again. A walk, and will Broxton now be brought in to face Holliday? LA's Cooler says NO!! Last edited by Roxpert; 04-10-2007 at 11:08 PM. |
