I traded Eric Chavez in order to get Ryan Shealy, who is currently batting a cool .000.
I don't regret getting rid of Chavez but I'm getting antsy about Shealy. None of you are in my league so I don't have to worry about getting bad advice. I picked too many young phenoms this year, like Chris Young of the DBacks. Shealy seems the worst of the lot in this first week and they're already platooning him with Gload Q: Would you dump him for Dmitri Young or Jose Bautista of the Pirates. That's what I'm itching to do. |

Of course they're platooning Shealy with Gload. Gload's better. Has been in each of the past three years. In fact, if I didn't think that Shealy would wind up getting the majority of the playing time when it's all said and done, I'd recommend that you drop him and pick up Gload.
Jackass is right. Terrible trade, but at this point, you might as well hang onto Shealy. |

Hmmm, some stupid magazine I bought thought Shealy might have a breakout year. Yeah, here it is. PUt out by cbs.sportsline.com
27 year olds are the ones to grab. Their short list included Shealy, Adam Dunn who I coulda had but I don't like his low batting average, Bobby Crosby who I picked, Teixeira who I love, Dan Johnson who I picked and who got hurt immediately, Khalil Greene, Chad Tracy who I picked again and again is having a slow start, Chris Burke, our boy Hawpe who I passed on, and Wilson Betemit who is still available. Eric Chavez always has a low batting average, always starts out slowly. But you guys are the number crunchers, and what's done is done. What about Kotchman, the 1B from the Angels? He's available. I really llike the Angels this year in that division. I'm thinking of picking up Casey K. for Shealy. Good? |

Newman, as for Kotchman vs. Shealy: it depends on how your league runs. If it's a standard BA/HR/RBI/SB league, it might make sense to hold onto Shealy and hope he breaks out with big HR power. But in general I think Kotchman will give you a lot more average and probably will play more, too (so you'll get a heavier weight for his high BA).

Yep, I'd definitely take Kotchman over Shealy. Kotchman's younger and might finally be realizing his power potential. And his plate discipline should make him a much better BA guy.
Wilson Betemit is still available? If he has 2B or SS eligibility in your league, you ought to grab him. He's probably better than Crosby, at any rate. |

Betemit has that eligibility. But the magazine has Crosby as the #152 best player and WB as the #207. If Wilson Betemit was hot right now I'd do it becasue I expect Crosby will get injured.
Great game tonite for my fantasy. I have Fuentes and Holliday. Well, Fuentes didn't have to give up that dinger, but he did get the save, and the Rox win on the road. Last edited by Newman; 04-07-2007 at 12:12 AM. |

Thinking of picking up Daniel Cabrera, SP of the Orioles. I think his wildness has been cured by that rocking chair pitching coach. But I can't decide who to dump.
How many starters to keep vs. middle relievers? My league has holds as a category. It's the hardest one to predict. Who is the closer for KC? I dumped Riske after he got bombed. Who is the closer for the Marlins? Somebody named Owens got a save last night. Todd Lidge was demoted from the Astros. Sporting News radio had an interesting topic in the wee morning insomnia hours last night. Name pitchers who've changed from just one pitch! Donnie Moore was mentioned. Lidge hasn't been the same since Pujols took him deep. Joe Carter hit that homer off that Philly closer, the lefty, whats his name. I thought of Herb Score. Was never the same after that line drive from Gil MacDougald in l957??? |

Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams served up that Carter bomb.
I've never seen a rotisserie league with "holds" as a category. Advice: take a pass on LaTroy Hawkins. I'd like Bobby Howry. You want a guy who's been consistent but is either behind a "proven closer" on the depth chart or a guy who is consistent but is labeled as not being "closer material." Corpas could be a sleeper pickup. I'd avoid Cabrera because: (1) AL pitcher; (2) in the AL east; (3) in a tough park. In real life, I like him a lot, and I think he's turning the corner and becoming very good right now. If you're playing in old-style rotisserie leagues, you've got to keep an eye on the minimum innings requirements for pitchers. For example, if your league requires at least 4 pitchers who will have 100 innings by the end of the season, the best strategy is usually to stop worrying about "wins" (too unpredictable, roto leagues following real life), and try to keep 2 or 3 solid starters. The only times I've actually finished in the money in leagues was when I took a flyer on a midseason call-up or someone who may be converted to a starter. I remember picking up a kid named Pedro Martinez early in '93 ... and then followed that up with Aaron Sele in August. That's my most lucrative season ever ... I don't even play anymore. As for the Marlins: they picked up Jorge Julio to close, and he was (not unexpectedly) horrible. Nolasco was thought to be a possible closer, but he's on the DL. At this point, it's a real crapshoot. Since Newman has brought up the subject I figured I'd propose one of my own.
In a sim league I've been offered Michael Barrett 3 years 4 million per remaining on his contract, Greg Reynolds (Who I'm currently very high on) Not just because of today. Seeing him a few times in the spring really changed my opinion of him. I've also been offered the 32nd overall pick. Our first 3 picks will probably be like Gomez (NYM) Bucholz (BOS), Morales (Col) there are probably about 15 BA top 100 guys on the board. So that pick would probably net me a top 17 prospect from the 07 draft. The other GM is also going to send me 4 million. In return I send back Prince Fielder in his first year.
