"We have taken a very conservative approach with him,'' said director of player development Marc Gustafson. "We don't think it is serious, but we want to make sure. The earlier MRI was negative."
I really hope this is the case. At least the earlier MRI didn't reveal any damage. I just hate seeing anything shoulder related... |

Dexter Fowler is out for the season with a broken hand. So he finishes at .273/.384/.367. That's quite the strange line; reminds me of Rich Becker. Hardly the sort of performance one expects from a raw talent with great tools. It'll be interesting to see if he maintains that kind of plate discipline next year.

This Jayson Nix thing is really weird ... and intriguing.
He's marching toward an August (not September) call-up at this rate, probably as soon as Kaz Mat hits the DL again, which appears inevitable. I'm not sure I can recall any hitter who seems to have "got it" so suddenly. Nix wasn't just struggling. He was a couple months from really playing himself out of baseball entirely, the kind of guy who would have to hook up with one of the independent league teams. And now he's a consistent power-hitting, slick fielding second baseman? Weird ... |

How old is Nix? I don't get too excited about guys in their mid 20's who have had to repeat AAA a couple times finally "getting it". Didn't Choo Freeman finally "get it" after a few years of trying in CO Springs?
Having said that, it's not impossible that Nix could be our answer at 2nd base next season. Matsui is coming down to earth a bit, is injury prone and on the wrong side of 30. Either Barmes or Nix could be in line for his job next year, especially if Matsui continues to spiral down or get hurt. |

Choo Freeman never "got it." Right now he has a .791 OPS in the extreme hitters' environment that is Las Vegas. He'll be 28 in October.
Nix will be 25 in August, so he's not exactly young for AAA, but he's not really old either. I'm skeptical, but c'mon Roxpert. Right now there's no hitter in our minor league system who has looked even remotely ready for the big leagues. And because Nix plays 2B (and by all reports does so very well), he's the best we have to hang our hopes on ... |

Maybe, but I did notice yesterday that the Astros started Chris Burke at 2nd base against us. It immediately struck me that besides resting Biggio, they were showcasing Burke for a trade. So, while Nix may be the best hope (of a sad lot) we have to hang our hopes on, the real "solution" may be coming from south Texas.
