We did something like this last year on the old board. Here are the rules Predict the opening Day Roster, including Starting lineup, bench, bullpen and Starter. Here are how points will work out.
1 Point if you identify a player on the Roster 2 Points if you identify a player on the Roster in his correct role (i.e. if you predict Atkins to hit 3rd in the lineup, and he does, you get 2 points, if you predict atkins to hit 3rd and he hits 5th you get 1 point) 1/2 Point for correctly identifying bench and bullpen players 5 Points for correctly identifying the opening day starter 2 Points for correctly identifying the starting rotation in order. Tie Breaker: Result of opening day game with score. |

Much better odds if people put their thoughts down on paper a bit later as spring training stories develop. But I'll go out on some early limbs. If you are going to win (or lose big), you gotta probably be a little different than everyone else, right? This is not the most likely, but I could see something happening this way...
1. Willy Taveras CF 2. Kaz Matsui 2b 3. Todd Helton 1b (back in the saddle after big spring claims of he's back) 4. Matt Holiday LF 5. Garret Atkins 3b 6. Javy Lopez C (surprise starter, surprise power source) 7. Brad Hawpe RF (would have gone with someone else if RJ was opening day instead of Webb) 8. Troy Tulowitzki SS 9. Jeff Francis SP BENCH: Carroll Torrealba Baker A.Gomez (playoff hero keeps surprises coming and looks ok in CF after playing there this winter) Quintanilla (imagined Barmes trade and strong spring from forgotten man opens door for slick fielder who will do the little things they are looking for) ROTATION: 1. Francis 2. Cook 3. Lopez 4. Hirsh (Fogg gone after ticking Rox off and Hirsh having strong camp) 5. Kim BULLPEN: Fuentes CL Hawkins Su Graves RP (veterans, veterans, veterans) Affeldt RP Martin RP Ramirez RP Buchholz RP Opening Day Rockies winning 8-7 in extra innings. |
