Here's a theory.....

This was the Rockies' payback revenge for what the Red Sox did to them in 2005. They intended to pull the plug on this well-publicized trade to put heat on them. After all, they said after the Shoppach fiasco that we would never make another deal with Boston. So far, they are right!

Will we see better offers for Todd closer to the trading deadline? Todd says he's going to turn down any trades with the veto clause in his contract, but he may feel differently in July if the Rockies are 20 games out and he has the chance to go to a contender.

Maybe the Rockies just wanted to let it be known that Todd could be available for the right offer. If Todd has a strong 1st half, he's got to draw a better offer than this in mid-season.
