I was thinking about Logan White. I have no idea if he's qualified for the job. You can and should always hire individuals to shore up your weaknesses. He certainly has a reputation.
The second name that came to mind was obviously Depodesta. Neither of these two seem like candidates to fill the job here. Frankly enough of our front office talent seems to have left over the years. I kind of think the Rockies have made enough style changes/cost cutting moves that an internal or former organizational insider would be the front runner. Of course someone who is exceptionally bright could get up to speed in quite a hurry. Any thoughts? |

I really think Dan O'Dowd is going to see a spike in his approval rating this year and into next as the pieces begin to come together here.
Speaking generally, some of the names that come to mind as future GM's somewhere are Thad Levine and Jed Hoyer. Last edited by Below C-Level; 12-14-2006 at 06:41 PM. |

If you're going with someone with farm development experience. Otherwise, I wouldn't really go after White as he'd be redundant to Schmidt anyway. I'd like Chris Antonetti from the Indians (Ringolsby would pop a cork if we hired him because he's a known stats guy) or Kim Ng from the Dodgers (I think almost all boys would pop a cork if we hired her) as I think they're among the elites of the next wave. Thad Levine was once here and he'd be solid too, but as an O'Dowd disciple, I don't know how he'd feel about replacing his mentor. Hopefully, O'Dowd wins the NL West this year and we don't have to think about it.

OK, its not beat up on Newman day is it?
I think if DOD brings Baldelli in, and gets him cheaply enough (no stud prospect, just an avg one or two), and the SP staff gets a shot in the arm from the Mexican pitcher, DOD will get the extension on merit. BRJ? I fire him for any losing streak that exceeds 4 games. If he hits the magic number of 5, he deserves to be fired IMO. I would've liked to have seen Josh Byrnes get the GM slot, but now that's not possible. Who is the Asst GM for the A's? That's who I would look at. Getting a "stat-head" is OK, as long as they can look beyond the numbers and find a balance between the game and the numbers. FYI Roxgirl, it's OK to have a female GM. Now the Giants having a female PA announcer? Thats just wrong IMO. It sounds weird. |
