Default Fogg and Torrealba offered contracts; Tsao non-tendered

Nice to see Fogg sticking around... as I've mentioned many times, pitchers of his caliber are making $7-8 million a year on the open market. He won't make more than $3 million in arbitration.

I don't like the Tsao decision, though. How much could a guy with no big league track record whatsoever have made in his first year of arbitration? I think it's easily worth a few hundred grand to keep him around. Hopefully we can sign him to a minor-league deal.

Torrealba signed for $1.075 million.

Seems like to much for a backup catcher, I'd much rather have saved the money and gone after Barajas instaed.

Barajas and Torrealba are basically the same player; Barajas has a little more power and Yorvit has a better arm, but overall, they're dead even. Torrealba is the cheaper, and therefore the better, option.

Default I like Barajas a little better than Torrealba

And it's mostly because of durability. Yorvit's injuries the last few seasons worry me. I think you can rely a little more on Barajas, but if it's for a lot more than the $1.075 then you're probably right to go with the cheaper albeit flimsier model.

Plus Barajas has more power than Torrealba, which is a good thing.

Off topic, But I just wanted to say welcome to the board, RoxGirl, and that's easily the best signature I've ever seen. Great movie, even better quote. Love it.

Thanks!

I know it's not the wisest choice of lifestyles, but I always kind of envied Susan Sarandon in that movie. As for the quote, it definitely fits the team.

I meant to welcome you as well Rox Girl. For those here that don't know, Rox Girl is the author of the best Rockies blog/fan website on the internet, Purple Row. I highly recommend checking out all the content and discussion over there. It is updated quite often with some very interesting stuff.

Rox Girl, if you didn't know, this is rockiesfan06, just under a different (better) name. I decided I'd show my love for the defense rather than the stale and unoriginal rockiesfan06.

Sarandon in Bull Durham was the consummate example of what we call a "cleatchaser." Of the many reasons I wish I still played, the cleatchasers certainly aren't forgotten.

The Jackass's First Rule of Catchers:

The fatter the healthier.

Barajas will go on forever. Yorvit could be done early.
