Default Injuries

I think everyone has taken noticed that there have been quite a bit more injuries to our Rockies then in past years this season. Lets take a closer look at some of these injuries:

Clint Barmes - Knee Sprain
Brad Hawpe - Hamstring Sprain
Matt Holliday - Hamstring Strain
Troy Tulowitzki - Quad Tear
Jeff Francis - Shoulder Imflamation
Todd Helton - Back Strain
and now Ryan Spillboughs.

It seems that we are having an unusually high number of injuries as of late, and most of them being sprains or strains one would think that our Training staff could be doing more in terms of stretching and workouts to help prevent some of these injuries. I know in sports injuries are common, however this year seems to be hitting us more so then not... can we ask the Training staff just what the hell they are doing (or not doing) to cause all of these injuries?

I don't know that it's an unusually high number. If you look at last year's DL trips from April to October, there were 17. This year there are 11 so far. Two years ago, I recall we had remarkably lucky health particularly in our rotation, and there were only 7 DL trips all year.

Is that high for a typical MLB team?

Wolf, you forgot the "addition by subtraction" injuries to Kip Wells and Luis Vizcaino.

Hoya, it's not the number of injuries. It's who got injured (key players) and the clustering of injuries. It has been a bad season, just like last year was an exceptionally injury-free season among position players.

Agreed, I'm just imagining this is one item on a short list of things we probably can't blame on the coaching staff, as Wolf wondered...

Luck is a tantalizing thing... like when it puts you simultaneously 6.5 games out of your division and 14 games out of .500 ball.
