And this is why a no-holds-barred thread shouldn't be included in a baseball forum.
HF, you might want to clean the slate on this thread, and next time act like a moderator and use your edit function when posters start calling each other names. |

Not really Drew.
Fanhome has a lot of forums. If someone is interested in discussing a topic, that isn't related to the Rockies, they can always go to those forums and post there. As far as your drving analogy, people aren't allowed to drive a tank, or a racecar, on the streets for a reason. In effect they're banned from doing so because of the inherent dangers to themselves and others. It's also why there are speed limits No? My point is there needs to be a "speed limit" on threads like this. |

I don't disagree, Rockieprogress.
In fact, I'm through engaging in "debates" about politics in this forum and that is true whether Roxpert is here or not. It's not why I come here, I don't enjoy partaking in it and I know that, at the end of the day, nobody else enjoys watching it either. I'm not apologizing for defending myself against personal attacks, but I also recognize that I was making a choice to engage in the "debate", if it could possibly be called that. And, for what it's worth, I don't think the issue was with the "random off-topic thread" so much as it was the behavior of a select few individuals who were posting in it, myself among them. It's certainly not a moderator issue, either. HF presumably has better things to do and isn't getting paid to babysit the comments of grown men. So, from now on, it's all Rockies baseball. Fortunately, it looks like there will be plenty to talk about... |

I like coming here to talk politics. How else do you know where your other Rockies fans stand on the issues of the day?
If some don't want to come in here, because it offends them or whatever, why not just NOT come in? Others like Drew and me enjoy the ability to come here and talk about different things. Why should WE be punished? For example I think if John Edwards doesn't finish 1 or 2 today in the SC caucus today (or is it a primary) then I think he should back out, quit. What's the point of continuing? If he can't win his home state why go on? America likes a winner. It's just like Giuliani. His strategy was stupid. People on his side of the equation are NOT going to wait around for him to win something. If he doesn't win Florida on Tuesday can he continue? I think not. Who would give him or Edwards money? I still like Edwards but I realize I'm in the minority. I plan on caucusing for him on Feb 5 out here in colorado, if he hasn't quit by then. Still, he isn't getting any traction nationally. Sad but true. The corporate media has so much power. And Edwards message is to fight the huge corporations like GE, who owns NBC. Right from the start they (the corporate media) wanted a Hillary vs. Obama race. The chicken or the egg. The masses didn't know about Edwards or didn't like his message. What came first? Or maybe they view him as a loser, Kerry's VP choice. Certainly the corporate media doesn't like Edwards. In the debates did he get equal time with Hillary or Obama? I think not. But again, America wants a winner. Voting is more emotional than intellectual I'm afraid. Last edited by Newman; January 26th, 2008 at 02:32 PM. |

I would just like to invite all of you to visit the entirity of Fanhome, to include our thread on the Super Bowl, our non-sports forums, or the goings on around baseball beyond just the Rockies.
Lastly, I'm jealous because your club has a bright future and mine has Bill Bavasi.

It's that sense of community that we get, amongst Rockies fans. Sure I could go to the Fanhome thread on non-sports forums, but I don't know any of those people. They're strangers. I know the people in this group. We're like family. Familiar with each other. Don't always get along. But we all pretty much want the Rox to succeed. Maybe we see different ways to get there.
Drew, my son is doing fine, I think. We haven't spoken much since his boss's wife sent me an email forward slamming the ACLU and sort of blaming them for the war in Iraq? I slept on it but got up the next morning and wrote one of my best Bush bashing missives saying that not all Marine parents are Conservative Evangelical Republicans, and blah blah blah. Naturally this all got back to my son in Anbar Province. He was not pleased. He's not a Progressive Democrat like his dear old Dad. My young Sgt. might believe in freedom of speech but he wished that I hadn't used it. He's due back state side in Mid February, knock on wood. Kucinich and Paul don't have much in common, Drew, except they both want us out of the Iraq War, see it as a huge mistake and money hole. After that the commonality stops. Ron Paul wants the government to do very little or nothing. Dennis Kucinich thinks we're all in this together and that the government should help solve problems. Ron Paul probably wants corporations to solve the problems. Isn't that how we got into this economic mess in the first place? What's the free market solution for the borrow and spend Republican way that they've paid for the Iraq War for the past 6 years (with no end in sight).?! Bedir, most of us here, except for Cocktoston (the official apologist for the Monfort Administration) aren't so happy with Monfort. Sure he signed Tulo and Holliday. But didn't he have to? What else did he do for us over the winter? Did he sign Danny Haren? Nope. The best pitcher went to our arch enemy Arizona. Last edited by Newman; January 26th, 2008 at 08:14 PM. |

Well, I'm not going to get into a discussion of "progressive liberalism" with you, Newman, but I will say that I echo Drew's sentiments wishing your son a safe return home from harm's way.
As for the Monforts, the irony is that they might need an "apologist" this winter less than any other in their history. Sure, he signed Tulo and Holliday...and Cook...and Torrealba...and Vizcaino...and Francis before them. And they're talking to Hawpe about an extension. But, other than that, you're absolutely right: it's just a hopeless situation on 20th and Blake despite what the "corporate controlled media" at Baseball Prospectus, Baseball America and other news outlets would have you believe. And the answer to your question: "but didn't he have to?" is, quite simply, "no". |

Touche.
Yorvit makes a little bit of sense when you look at it as an insurance policy for Chris Iannetta. At the end of the day, they've committed to 2 years, $8 milliion at the catcher position between them for 2008-09. That's reasonable. It will be even more reasonable if Iannetta assumes the everyday catching duties by mid-season, but in the event he doesn't develop as everyone expects, I think we could do worse than Yorvit as a stop-gap. |

Isn't THAT the family squabble, JC? Do we have a good owner? I say NO. You say Tomato.
Were you thrilled that Monfort could only find a way to sign Holliday to a 2 YEAR contract? I wanted him to be a lifetime Rockie. Matt is the heart and sole of the team. WE are sure of only 2 more years? Granted Helton's contract crippled us as a team for years. Maybe Monfort shouldn't have given him money that he didn't have? Why doesn't he take a page from George W. Bush's playbook and just borrow money from Communist China or Saudi Arabia, and use that borrowed money to pay for Holliday? Let Monfort's grandchildren pay it back! We have an owner who can't afford to play in a rich man's game. Sure we lucked into the World Series once. What a great 21 game SURGE. Who can forget it? It was like a dream. Who plans on that happening again. My name is Newman, not Pollyanna. I agree with Heltonfan. Yorvit??? Affeldt is gone. Who's our lefty specialist that we worry about now whenever he takes the bump?? Other teams get better. Other teams in our division have young studs like Tulo as well. There's no guarantee we will be back and win the NL West, errrrrrrr NL WILD CARD, again. Are we favorite to win the division according to Baseball America or Baseball Prospectus or John Cocktoston? I don't get into baseball mood until the weather warms (59 in Colorado today, global climate change?) and pitchers and catchers report. Right now the political race in both parties is far more interesting and WE actually have something to say and do about it by going to the caucus on Feb 5.
