Sosa is under more steroid suspicion than Thomas, so I think it may be held against him and he might not get in. Also, keep in mind that Sosa got the bulk of his homers in a small 4 year period, which will be in doubt by writers.
Sosa eventually gets in HOF either by the writers or veteran's committee, but I think Thomas gets in more easily. |

The fact that there is a discussion about whether or not Biggio deserves to be inducted into the HOF pisses me off about as much as the fact that Buck O'Neil died before he got in. That was an absolute travesty and the BBWA, veterans committee and everyone related to the HOF should be ashamed of themselves.

I think a lot of players from this era will face this kind of scrutiny, whether from steroids suspicions or not. Offensive numbers from the last 15 years or so just aren't what they used to be, and baseball writers in particular seem to think that it is their responsibilty to stand up for players of the past and give more merit to past accomplishments than those of today. Thomas may very well be the first player to face this situation. He could be the first guy with great offensive numbers who didn't face steroid allegations to receive lots of srutiny and debate. |

I know you weren't, but Thomas was 3 dimensional, not two. He had great patience and OBP from the get-go. He set some sort of record of consecutive .300 seasons to go along with 100 walks and 100 RBIs to start off his career. He was Albert Pujols.......before Albert Pujols, and will be remembered for that. That's why he's a HOFer.

If that's the case, Thomas would truly be getting the shaft.
You look at pictures of Barry at ASU and Pittsburgh, or even McGwire during the 1984 Olympics and they look like little kid versions of themselves. Same with Sosa when he was in Chicago (AL) and Texas. Frank Thomas in college? He was a big, scary looking 6'5' 260LB ******* who played tight end at Auburn. |

I don't get why Frank Thomas gets a pass on the steroids question. He was big to begin with? So? He was a football player at Auburn. All those guys were probably taking steroids back then, don't we think? So why wouldn't Frank have done them?
We just seem to assume that Junior and ARod didn't take steroids. Why is that? I put everyone under suspicion. Just because you don't have a body like wrestler Chris Benoit does that mean you didn't take steroids? Did G. Mota, the pitcher, have a body like that? And who was that fast slap hitter for Detroit that got busted for steroids awhile back? He didn't look like a wrestler. Baseball is big bu$ine$$ now. Chicks dig the long ball. Offense $ells hot dogs and beer. Does baseball really check for steroids? Which ones? When? How come names are never mentioned, or test times? Do we really believe in the tests? How many players use HGH? What's the speculation on that? Has George Mitchell subpoenaed one player so far, besides Giambi? Are they really trying to get to the bottom of anything? And so it goes... |

Half way point of the season has passed.
We are 41 - 43 .488 after 84 games and 7.5 games out of first, in 4th place, with many teams to leapfrog over to make the playoffs. So what else is new? We had some fun this season, taking a series from the Bosox and sweeping the Yanks. Then we had that horrendous week where Tulo was the hero, no, Fuentes was the goat. What's the overview? Atkins is starting to hit like we thought he should. Helton is doing worse than we had hoped. We've lost our closer temporarily. Starting pitching is shakey. We won't make the playoffs again. What was the last year that we made the playoffs? I know we've had a losing record in 8 of the past 9 years. It's hard to be a fan of mediocrity. It's also hard to just sit back and enjoy Barry Bonds as he breaks Hank's record, and pretend that steroids isn't a factor. I heard this attitude once again on espn radio this morning. Ugh. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Happy Independence Day? Scooter Libby is free. The system works? |

The sooner Barry breaks the record, the sooner I don't have to see his fat, tired, old ass everynight on Sportcenter and Baseball Tonight. I couldn't care less if he breaks the record as it will always be tarnished in my eyes. After Barroid retires, the record will stand only as long as it takes A-Rod to break it, which should happen in about 8 years barring any serious injuries to A-Rod.

The Dodgers Against the Reds: Brooklyn's 1953 Team was Better Than Cincinnati's 1975 Team
i thought this was a neat article. i am not sure how they would come to this conclusion though, but a cool concept none the less. |
