Morales to AAA. Wells having diagnostic tests to see if his circulation issues have returned. Does Capellan pitch on Saturday? Who's up next - Reynolds? Jimenez almost has to stay in the rotation now...
Meanwhile, if Tulo is down for a bit, do we bring up Q? Can we afford to bring up a second middle infielder to replace Nix with the rotation falling to shambles? Drama. |

Lets just say this team has issues with Pitching depth... none of the options in AAA are any better then what we have now. I agree Morales needs to be sent down, but, Towers won't perform much better, Reynolds isn't ready, Capellan and De La Rosa are waiting to be lit up. We are screwed. |

According to Ringolsby on the pre-game show last night, the Rox were looking to complete the deal for De La Rosa and have him pitch Saturday.
Omar could and should get the call up for Tulo if/when he goes on the DL

The Official Site of The Colorado Rockies: News: Rockies pick up two pitchers in trades
Who is Stephen Grilli? And is the fact that we only sent them a Modesto player indicative of of what we can expect from him? |

Grilli is of the "I had no idea he was still pitching" variety.
De La Rosa is more interesting. I would expect him to be better than Morales, which (after how Franklin performed) isn't saying much. He has good stuff but poor control Probably a good LOOGY candidate down the line (we pulled the same thing after getting Affedt from the Royals with good results), but he'll be forced into starting duty right away. |

Ya, I like the De La Rosa pickup, which I think we'd talked about before. I like that it might free up Fuentes down the line for a trade (if Corpas sorts himself out), and that if we can get the rotation sorted, it might stop the rotating door of LOOGY candidates.

From Rotoworld:

Notice how no other team "pounced" on Nix? Could it be that he HAS ABSOLUTELY NO VALUE WHATSOEVER? And that's the guy O'Dowd had to give the 2B job because he couldn't stand losing him on waivers ... By the way, I had a look at de la Rosa's splits, and that confirms my "LOOGY in the making" theory. I still wouldn't have traded Ramirez for him, but I'm weirdly confident about him making a decent contribution. Nothing exciting... Affeldt-like, as I said ... |

I've got Grilli projected at 3.94. Yet another perfect illustration of why giving $7 million to Luis Vizcaino is a really stupid thing.
I like De La Rosa as well; he's better than Jimenez or Morales. I just wish that we had had the sense to realize that you don't have to give up an excellent pre-arb reliever in order to get a guy who has just been DFAd. |
