Bullet dodged.....Pedro Strop was not selected in the Rule V draft.
No Rockies were selected and the Rockies did not select anyone. The big news of the day was the Cubs selecting Josh Hamilton from the Devil Rays (Yeah.....THAT Josh Hamilton). No word yet on the minor league portion of the draft.....but I suspect we may see the Rockies lose a couple players. |

The Rockies did take someone in the AAA portion of the draft. They nabbed Salomon Manriquez, a catcher out of the Nats system. I'm guessing he'll be backing up Alvin Colina in AAA next year. The Nats....(Seriously the Nats) lost SEVEN players in the AAA portion of the draft. I'm not even sure how that is possible since I'd be hard pressed to find seven quality propects in their system to begin with. |

The problem is that he's only been pitching for 1 year now. A lot of teams were interested, but there were a lot of concerns about whether or not the kid could last a year in the major leagues. Ultimately, it was going to have to be a team "out of contention" that could potentially waste a roster spot. Despite the A's interest, I don't think they were ever a serious risk. Now, KC on another hand......I really thought if any team would....they would be the ones.
He definitely won't get through next year. |
