$5.25 million over four years? How do you get there?
Already explained. The $5.25 million number is what a typical player of Corpas's actual value (WAR) would get. But, based on this year's arb results for closers (Street, Cordero, Fuentes, Valverde, Lidge, K-Rod) compared to what my formula spits out, closers appear to be overvalued in arb by about 75%. Hence my saying that Corpas's real expected salary is $8.59 million. And I think that figure is quite reasonable - given my projection for him, of course (3.41). If he's a 3.00 guy going forward, as TIR suggests (and as the projections would suggest if you threw out 2005), the number jumps to $13.09 million, in which case we've got ourselves a nice bargain. But still, a savings of $5 million on a long-term deal is hardly spectacular.

Have you checked how that holds up specifically with RPs?
With the exception of the closer inflation thing discussed above, it works just fine.
