Absolutely sickening. Doesn't MLB have any standards anymore? They'll take the highest bid and not even require the most minimal standards for separating advertising and coverage.
That Taco Bell thing is out of control. I absolutely refuse to believe that Royce Clayton spontaneously starts spouting off about Taco Bell in the dugout when he happens to be mic'd. A shameless plug, and then they repeat it in Game 2. Followed up by a pre-wired interview with some Taco Bell exec in the stands. Oh, and by the way Ellsbury's "stolen base" should've been recorded by the scorer as "took 2nd base on defensive indifference." Screw your free taco, that was no stolen base. In Game 1 they cut away to a taped (between innings) interview with Francona in the dugout. Meanwhile, Helton launches a long drive 3/4 of the way up the Green Monster. They never cut away from the audio of the interview, although they do give us video as the ball is hitting the wall. I actually preferred the TBS Frank TV nonstop plugs. At least these were the old-fashioned baseball play-by-play man 5 second scripts. Kind of like the local "Elite Auto Glass" spots. That's a longstanding baseball (radio) announcers tradition. Putting mics on ballplayers and having them engage in phony conversation in the dugout is a new low. By the way: why exactly does Royce Clayton still have a job? And how out of it is old orange hair himself, McCarver? Game 1: "Jeff Francis lives up high in the strike zone -- if he's going to succeed, he'll need to get hitters out on that high fastball." It is obvious he's never seen Francis pitch. Could he at least watch a little video of Francis before doing the game? Is it true that his only preparation is Preparation H? Yesterday: "Helton is just as good a hitter on the road as at home." Not, "Helton isn't just a Coors Field phenomenon." No: "just as good." Do they even have statisticians? If they do, I guess McCarver just thinks he's so damn entertaining that no one cares if he's accurate. |

Fox sucks at the baseball broadcasting game. They do 1 game per week during the season starting in June and then they get to do the WS. I'd rather have ESPN (who does 3-6 games/week) do the WS than anybody else. Mind you they have to get rid of Steve Phillips and Peter Gammons to make it more enjoyable to watch, but if they didn't it would still be better than garbage that Fox is putting on the airwaves.

Fox has no journalistic standards whatsoever. This is true with all of Rupert Murdoch's "journalistic" entities. The Fox News Channel is a sham of journalism and really should be called "The Fixed News" Channel, or "State-run TV"........they engage in disinformation and right-wing propaganda, reflecting Rupert's personal politics.
Same thing with Fox Sports. They only own the sports rights to sell sponsorships and promote their own programming. They couldn't care less about being journalistic or accurate, so they too engage in disinformation. I loved it when McCarver referred to the Rockies' home ballpark as "Mile High Stadium". That's probably because the last time McCarver was here, we were still playing there. And when he said "a cold and rainy night in Boston would be like a sunny day in Denver", he mis-informs his audience about our climate and current weather conditions, which are better than most of the country. FOX = "Forever Obnoxious Xenophobes" |

Oh, you mean those same "liberal" networks who didn't air out the left's objections regarding the invasion of Iraq, and in fact cheerled Bush's war in 2002/03? You mean CNN with Glenn Beck and "Chief Xenophobe" Lou Dobbs? C'mon, clearly you don't understand that there IS no so-called "liberal" media. It's all "corporate" media, beholden to no one but their "masters", the sponsors and advertisers who pay their bloated salaries. The so-called liberal media is more interested in telling you about Lindsay Lohan's latest trip to rehab and getting you to tune in than in telling you about the underclass struggling in New Orleans, Denver, or any other major city. Oh, and by the way, they NEVER challenge Bush in press conferences with tough questions and followups. They are meek, and if you think "moderate" or "corporate" journalism is "liberal", then you have been buying into the right-wing spin machine, hook line and sinker. Fox has misinformed and even brainwashed too many people, and is not serving in the public interest. NONE of them are (save PBS).
