Supply & demand. Outside of season-ticket holders, the average fan usually ends up watching the game on TV for any WS or ASG. Once they reach the national stage, it's more about who can afford to be seen on TV and less about loyal fans. Yet another reminder not to put too much personal stake into something which, in the end, is strictly business.

This is a philosophical question.
It's a valid question that applies to all secondary markets. Ironically, part of the problem derives from the fact that it isn't an efficient market because MLB knowingly sells the tickets for far less than they're worth.

It's not as though MLB isn't aware that these tickets have a street value of $2000 - $3,000 a piece. They sell them for $250. That creates an immediate secondary market.

MLB can't sell them for their true value because the PR hit would be incalculable. But it's not baseball's fault, or the Rockies' fault, that scalpers sell something worth $2500 for $2500. They bought it for $250.

The only thing MLB could do to eliminate the secondary market would be price the tickets at $2500 face value, which would go over like the proverbial fart in church...

You know what the Scalpers are charging now for those tickets?

The difference is this -- you're witnessing history for sure. And it happens in EVERY sport. EVERY sport jacks up ticket prices for the playoffs and especially their marquee title games: The Super Bowl, the World Series, the Stanley Cup Championship, the NBA Finals. All pro sports leagues do it. Is it ethical? Is it mean? Are these games going to be a permanent memory (for better or worse) to those attending? Is attending a WORLD SERIES game worth a premium?

Those are discussion points... But it's not comparable to scalping day-of-game regular season tickets. Cuz this ain't the regular season any more. This is what they play 162 games a season to reach... Do you treat it like just another game to the fans, or do you promote it as the rare, grand spectacle that it is?

I completely agree that there is way too much emphasis on Boston and NY in baseball media. It's not as bad in basketball, cause the Celtics and Knicks have sucked, or hockey, cause no one cares, and the patriots are a truly great team and besides - football handles television packages a lot better.

And I do think the Rockies have been ignored some. Part of that is that they came out of nowhere. They haven't even been .500. And they weren't dramatic in the way they rolled over SD and AZ. I don't see them as playing particularly over their head and a 96 win team isn't all that much better than a 90 win team.

I think it'll be a good series and I'm happy to see the Rockies in the postseason... and hope it will the start of a run!!
