Holliday might have (certainly should have) locked up the MVP award with that triple...
Wow. Biggest game of the season turns into the best game of the season. I'm on the edge of my seat just following the slowly updating live box score; can't imagine what it's like for you guys who are at the ballpark. |

Heltonfan, there will be a lot of talk about whether Holliday touched home plate unfortunately... It's questionable at best and it was a late call by the ump... Holliday face plants in the dirt and bleeds out the nose... what a way to break in to the postseason.

After Scott Hairston happened, I had a whole long rant prepared about how we were getting beaten by the best GM in baseball. Hairston was acquired for peanuts. So was Heath Bell. Doug Brocail is making less than we're paying Ortiz, and has been rock-solid. Joe Thatcher was obtained for Linebrink, in a deal that the Padres players couldn't make any sense of at the time, but which obviously worked out extremely well (and looked great at the time, by the numbers).
But so much for all that. This was the kind of game that almost makes one buy into the "team of destiny" notion. Just amazing stuff. |

Absolutely right, Dante. Karma.
For what it's worth though, if you see the replay, Barrett's left leg gets shoved off the plate... It's getting shoved by something!!! Namely Holliday's hand going over the plate. Boy does this feel good. And yes, Heltonfan, team of destiny and all that jazz, but you can't have the cliche "against all odds..." without the numbers. Rocktober starts now. |

Wolf, Drew, and I spent most of the game in the chat room, agonizing over every play. I'm exhausted. It feels like I've been thru an Avalanche Stanley Cup Final, only I understand baseball so much better than hockey.
What a game! What a feeling!! So much to say. Matsui thank you for starting out that 13th inning rally with that double to RCF. Then Tulo of course. Holliday avenges his gaffe in the field with the triple. Helton gets walked. And Jamie Carroll hits the short sac fly to RF but it's long enuf, the ump blows the call, and we win, we win, we win!!! |

We beat Peavy and Hoffman, and we not only beat them, we beat up on them.
This team has a lot of character and is sure fun to watch. I will even give big time props to Hurdle, who I have been very critical of, for being the leader of this group and guiding this team to 14 wins in 15 games. |

I still don't get why Hurdle took out Corpas after just one inning. Can't wait to see the paper. How many pitches could Manny have thrown in the 9th? I'm guessing it was 14. Then Herges pitches 3 innings? Where's the logic there?
I don't wanna see Julio anymore this post season. Matt gets the batting title AND the RBI (even though it's meaningless) title! Why shouldn't he be MVP? Why does it have to go to Jimmy Rollins? We made the playoffs. The Humidor is in existance. Holliday should get the MVP award. Period. 1. I wish Hurdle would lose the gum during post game interviews. He looks ridiculous. 2. Can't they scissors off those tags on the Wild Card hats as they pass them out. That makes no sense and looks stupid. 3. The Baseball Tonight experts, Tim Kurkjian and Orel Hersheiser, both pick the Phillies to beat us in the first round. When do we get respect? Damn their east coast bias. GO ROCKIES! Can't think of a better game than this either, Hotshot. How are we supposed to sleep after that?!!! Nice to have a happy ending! Last edited by Newman; 10-02-2007 at 01:10 AM. |

I'm not sure if we will see Julio in the postseason. The roster has to go back to 25, so we will definately keep Francis, Fogg, Morales, Jimenez, Corpas, Fuentes, Herges, Hawkins, Afeldt, and Bucholz. That leaves 2-3 spots for Redman, Spier, Dessens, and Julio. I would definately think Spier makes it before Julio, and possibly before Redmanas well. Then it may depend on how many pitchers they keep.
