Nate, you're right.
We almost pulled off the trifecta tonight -- losses by the Phillies and Padres and a win by us. Almost. But I can certainly see the Giants and the Brewers causing problems for the Padres in the final 5 games, so if someone had to win tonight it might s well have been the Pads. |

Fuentes sure didn't look like the 3rd best lefty reliever in baseball tonight. Corpas, however, gives up his second homer to a lefty on this road trip on route to a save. We still need Fuentes (the good one).

I hope they can win their damn last 5 games, even though a 14 game winning streak sounds pretty out there. I just bought two tickets to the playoffs. I'd like to go |

Who knows, maybe they will win 14 straight. Who would have thought that this team, with 60% of its rotation injured, could ever be capable of 9 straight wins? This is truly showing that the concept of momentum may really exist in baseball. The game, after all, is "90% half mental" according to Yogi!

I'm not sure how I feel about the Dodgers being eliminated.
Initial reaction: great news. They probably won't push their pitchers who are signed for next year (Lowe, Proctor, Broxton) and they may sit guys like Kent and Gonzo and Nomar. On further reflection: I'm definitely more scared of the young guys than the old farts at this point. |

You bring up a good point, Jackass. Delwyn Young may well have scored on that sac fly where Sullivan threw out Jeff Kent at home. Younger players could be hungrier, fresher, better than tired old vets.
One of the best moments of the night was when Hurdle, defying George Frazier and Drew Goodman, walked over to his writing pad, jotted down something, then stubbornly sat down, and left the bad Fuentes in to pitch to the dangerous righty Matt Kemp in the 8th. Way to stay the course Clint! (Or was he just super lucky? Or no confidence in Julio anymore??)? What a ride! 9 wins in a row. 85 for the season! Talk about MUST SEE TV! It doesn't get any better than this. I want to be watching the Ken Burns special on WWII, PBS, but this is more riveting than Rosie the Riveter, and I'd so much rather spend time on baseball than war. Go Rox! Hurdle is a genius! (Nice catch Spilly). Why can't Tulo be the Rookie of the Year?!! If the good Fuentes had pitched that one week Tulo would have so much more cache. Great arm at the most important defensive spott SS, unlike the DH Ryan Braun who poses as a 3B. |

Did you notice that Kent -- a guy looking out for his own future now (maybe always) -- didn't exactly throw his body at Torrealba? When a catcher's blocking the plate he wants you to come right toward the plate on a standard slide. Kent's foot was never going to move Torrealba's leg, and the impact was never going to be enough to jar the ball loose.
I'm hoping for more half-assed plays like that from the Dodgers these next couple games ... |

Josh Fogg has received a lot of grief on this forum the past couple years, but showed perhaps that the front office knew what it was doing when choosing him over Kim early this season.
Tonight may have been Fogg's last game with the Rockies, if they don't make the playoffs. If so, he's left me with a happy memory. His jubilant dance off the mound after striking out Ethier with the bases loaded (after walking them loaded) was a classic. |

Sad to see Fogg go. Modern baseball economics. We can't afford him. Gee, I don't know if I've ever strung those words together on this site "can't afford him."
Was fun watching Fogg. He smiles. He laughs. He tries. He succeeds! He walks the bases loaded and then gets out of his own jam. 10 in a row! New club record!! Now I expect us to win! That's what Tulo has brought to this team, that winning attitude. What a play by the should be ROY deep in the hole last night. What an arm! It was Jeteresque. Jeterian. Why do we have to wait so long for the next one, 8:10pm? Franklin Morales v. Estaban Loaiza. Alllllllllllll Aboooooooooooarrrrrrrrrrrddddddddddd! |

Pshaw, Newman. Some of us are getting ready for bed by the time the game comes on and we have to stay up way past bedtime to see how it all turns out. What do you think, indianadrew? Somebody call ESPN. Sounds to me like there is a distinct Western bias in the reporting on this board
... oh, right. |
