Yes, I'd give automatic berths to the 12 conference champions and at-large berths to the best of the rest. The 8 at-large teams would face the bottom 8 conference champs for the right to meet the top 8 conference champs.

Over just a few years, this system would have the effect of spreading the talent around to more colleges - as performing well in what are now "weaker" conferences would get you a sure shot at the championship.

I don't see much need for schedule changes. The only thing you'd have to do is make sure the regular season is over by the week before Thanksgiving. Then, you'd start the playoffs on Thanksgiving weekend.

Well, among other things, theres only 32 teams in the NFL compared to four times that number in the NCAA. Its mightily difficult to move 20-30,000 fans across the country on week's notices. No matter what there will be controversy. Why not just go back to the pre-BCS system.

You don't have to move 20K - 30K fans around the country on a week's notice. Host the preliminary games at the higher-seeded team's home field. The rabid travelers will still show up for the visiting side. Local and regional ticket sales will all but ensure sell-outs and the TV revenues will be immense.

You'd hold the "Final Four" on New Year's Day and the championship game a week later, at neutral sites. Those would be such high profile events that there would be no problem putting fannies in the seats.

They continue to be the second-tier post-season exhibitions that they are now.

Would you keep the Orange, Sugar, Rose etc as the neutral sites.

Yes, but if they want to be on New Year's Day, they'd have to rotate, as only two playoff games would be played on that day. In the out years, they could feature high-profile second-tier matchups.
