Slick Rick Neuheisel, the sleaziest coach of the last two decades, returns to coach his alma mater. UCLA.
Neuheisel named new coach at UCLA - NCAA Football - Yahoo! Sports His legacy includes a great record (66-30) and a trail of slime including NCAA violations, destroyed relationships with in-state high school coaches, and broken programs at both Colorado and Washington. A really low class move by what is generally considered to be a first class educational institution. |

I wonder how Rick will take it now that he knows he's not allowed to gamble, even though he's at a school with a better basketball than football program.
Although, this should cement USC as THE program.

If I were the slickster's agent, I would have advised him against taking this gig. UCLA is a team of talented undisciplined underachievers. Neuweasel did his best work taking over teams from strict disciplinarians McCartney and Lambright. After three years the discipline was gone from the programs and the team went flat. The lack of recruiting capable linemen also had something to do with the declines. I will be real surprised if he puts up a better record than Dorrell.

Well, this was not that bad of a move by UCLA.
They could have done a lot worse, as Bedir said, USC is the program, which coach would have elevated UCLA above USC? I would have waited a week and targeted Herm Edwards. Edwards is a mediocre NFL coach, but I could see him flourish in the college game, possibly similar to a young Pete Carroll. Quote:
I mean, KEITH GILBERTSON? When Jim Mora Jr. and Charlie Weiss were interested in the Husky job. And who do the Huskies hire after Gilbertson is fired? A uninspiring choice in Tyrone Willingham. You could argue Rick left the program dry but it shouldn't take that long to rebuild. Just ask Ron Zook, who is not even that good of coach, restoring Illinois football.

Yes, let's ignore that he got Colorado placed on probation.

Keith Gilbertson wasn't much of a head coach, but he was a great assistant. Gilbertson didn't destroy recruiting by alienating high school coaches and having a convention of NCAA buzzards and vultures circling the campus - Slick Rick did that. This year appears to be the first year that Washington reasserted itself on in-state recruiting. That's why Bill Doba got fired instead of Ty Willingham.

Well, UCLA hired Norm Chow. I like that hiring.

Norm Chow is brilliant, he'll take the extraordinarily plain and substandard offensive lineman that Neuheisel recruits and use formations to make up for their weaknesses. A lot of stuff like Hawaii used with Brennan.
