You have distain for the polls..but you keep quoting Sagarin.

When it fits your purposes, you quote different poll spots...post season then mid season.
Illinois was a far better team that 40th...check the final polls.

To answer your question then, this year there are at least 16 teams that have a legitimate claim to a place in the championship game. Any system that does not include, at minimum, all 16 of those teams, cannot produce a legitimate champion.
...you keep missing this...they already had their chsot.

These teams play 12 games...thats it

That's because Sagarin isn't a poll, but uses an objective statistical formula for determining the relative strength of competitors within a group (the Elo rating), plus the most reliable predictor of which team will win a head-to-head matchup (the White Owl rating).

You're right, by virtue of their win over OSU, the Illini vaulted up to the 21st spot in the Sagarin ratings. Even at that, this OSU team has yet to play a top-20 team.

They had their shots against unequal competition, some of which was hand-picked to produce a win. Even at that, the one team that had no losses also gets no chance to prove that they're the best in the nation. In other words, the one undefeated team has no shot at a title - and never did. Even by your own reasoning, the OSU-LSU exhibition game will not produce a legitimate champion.

...all a team like WV had to do was beat Pitt, on their home field...for one example, and it would be there shot.
Granted OSU is there because they won all (but one) of their contests. Other teams could not...lot of upsets...so, do you just want to throw out this year as a whole because it seems there was more parity?

...shall we include undefeated Div !II teams as well? Youe own precious Sagarin ranked Hawaii's schedule as 117th o ut of 119.
They have no credibility

...look, suck it up or dont watch...I personally do not care...but the winner will be #1, make no mistake.

Quick reality check...stop the complaining, you are not going to get your wish. You want to end the Bowl structure. Won't happen...too much money at stake.
You will not get December filled with4 weekends of playoff games to reduce 16 teams to one championship game. The TV networks dont want it, the Bowl sponsors dont want it.

It is not going to happen.

Since you, dlb, cannot change the structure...you can only complain or accept what is.

Do you need me to tell you what the rational choice is?

French, so you agree that the current makeup of division one A is a joke? I mean, is a team really part of a league/division/conference if they can go undefeated and still aren't allowed to play in the title game?

I'd rather just go back to the old days when a conference champion always went to a specific bowl game. I loved that the Southwest Conference champion always went to the Cotton Bowl and invited an at-large team as an opponent. I couldn't care less about a mythical national championship. To win the Big 12, SEC, Big 10, etc. is no small achievement.
