Wow, it's nice to see another new team on top of the polls after a very exciting and fun season of college football.
If they win the Big 12 title game they will go on and play for the national title. It will be no easy task for Missouri though, they will have to beat Oklahoma, but it could be done. A lot of experts have Missouri losing the Big 12 title game though, but it will be a must see game. Even with the loss to Missouri today Kansas probably clinched a BCS game berth.

Pac 10 champion: USC Big 10 champion: Ohio State SEC champion: LSU Big 12 champion: Oklahoma Big East champion: West Virginia ACC champion: Boston College That's 6 spots. One will be reserved for Missouri (their body of work is impressive - beat Illinois, Kansas, Texas Tech, Colorado). The last spot will be reserved for Hawaii. Tennessee is an extremely flawed team. I don't see them beating LSU. Oklahoma already beat Missouri, they are the better team. West Virginia should handle Pittsburgh. The only toss up is Boston College vs. Virginia Tech. If Tech wins, Kansas might get in.... But if I were the President of say the Sugar or Orange Bowl.... would I pick Kansas over a team like Georgia or Florida? HELL NO!

Yeah, I agree Kansas didn't have much competition but I think you will see them sneak into a BCS game.
Missouri could be left out in the dust if Oklahoma beats them in the Big 12 title game. That would mean Oklahoma would clinch a BCS berth, and that would also mean they would beat Missouri twice this season. In that case I believe the bowl selectors would pick Kansas over Missouri, even though Kansas lost to them because they would have one less defeat.

This isn't about determining which team is the best in college football, it's about generating revenue. The top spots will go to the teams that can bring the most fans to the party and create the most interest among the national TV audience.

if ohio state sneaks into the national championship, the rose bowl will likely pick illinois for their bowl game if eligable. gotta give them props for at least trying to keep tradition going. |
