Default Kentucky hires Gillispie

The former Texas A&M coach has accepted the Kentucky offer to become their next Head Coach.

From Rotoworld :

Quote:
Kentucky has chosen Billy Gillispie, formerly of Texas A&M, to replace Tubby Smith as head coach.

Other candidates had included Tom Crean (Marquette), Rick Barnes (Texas), and Billy Donovan (Florida), who officially removed himself from the running Thursday. Gillispie, 48, engineered extraordinary turnarounds at A&M and UTEP in the last five seasons, put together four straight top-25 recruiting classes, and led the Aggies to the first 20-win season in school history this past year. He now takes over the most storied college basketball program in NCAA Division
I think everyone knew once Donovan turned them down that Gillispie was going to be the guy. He turned around A&M and UTEP but he hasnt had the BIG STAR recruit aside from Acie Law, so It will be interesting to see if he can land the 5star recruit because we all know that its different recruiting @ A&M from Kentucky.

He's no worse than Tubbs, and maybe no better. KY's problems may have nothing to do with their coach, but could just boil down to their being a place that time is passing by.

I agree with you dlb, Kentucky may not be an elite program anymore.....

I don't think Gillispie will win any national titles there, I don't think he will have that much of an impact. He will probably be a little bit better coach, but does he have the recruiting power?
