I'm with dlb. I doubt there will be a George Mason. In fact, if one of the teams that you've listed get's to the elite 8 I will host a sig that says "Calsports1 is my hero and you should love him too"

I think Winthrop has a good chance of being a cinderalla.
Also watch out for another George, George Washington. Lately they have been playing well and I think could cause a stir in the tourney

I agree on GW as a possible upsetter, as they are lighting it up for sure heading in to the Tourney...If you hold up a CalSports1 sign with an Elite 8
entrant from my list, me and the CalSports1 website will be very happy lol.... As far as the Top Guns, I like Georgetown and Florida, but Bruins are my Fav team! |

Southern Illinois was ranked as high as 11th this year (and toward the END). I don't think it's a HUGE longshot for them to make elite 8. They've made the sweet 16 with a MUCH lower ranking.
Maybe it's just a bias against the school. Where is the love? If people knew that many of the players are from Chicago and not Southern Illinois would they think differently. Probably. And two more things: 1.) If the Salukis went past the first round it would not be considered an "upset". They are ranked with the expectation of making the Sweet 16 so it should not be considered a "long shot". 2.) How can people talk about Salukis being in a weak conference (not in this thread), but then go on and on about how good Creighton is and how they are going to upset teams. (Again, not in this thread, but definitely in links on this board.) Last edited by Amberelise; 03-15-2007 at 04:15 PM. |

I would agree with your points, and the answer is, that people overreact to one or two good games. Sure, Creighton is 'hot', but Southern Illinois has
been good all season long. Only the Tourney will decide how tough the conference is when push comes to shove. So. Illini may not be a true sleeper, but they are not well known, so they still could arguably qualify, especially in the later rounds. |

Duke, schmook. Wait until they face a real team.
Silly me I bought into the GW hype. I had them winning two games.

Same here. I had the GW in the sweet 16 along with VCU. Well, maybe VCU will get there so I don't feel too bad.

My Selections of Butler and Southern Illinois are easily through to the Sweet Sixteen and now come the bigger tests. Both Xavier and Nevada, also sleepers of mine, gave it a Great go before falling to Ohio State and Memphis respectively. If the So. Illinois Salukis or Butler Bulldogs are on their 'A' game , you might just be waltzing around with a CalSports1 sign after all:-) |
