Default Former Iowa State star Stevens dies during workout

Quote:
AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Barry Stevens, the second-leading scorer in Iowa State basketball history, died Wednesday while exercising in Gary, Ind., the school said. He was 43.

The cause of death was not immediately known.

Stevens, who played at Iowa State from 1982-85 and had a brief stint with the Golden State Warriors in 1993, scored 2,190 points and averaged 18.7 points for the Cyclones-- trailing only Jeff Grayer in the scoring ranks.

Stevens averaged 22.2 points as a junior and 21.7 as a senior. In 1985, Stevens scored 47 points against Morgan State -- the second most points by an Iowa State player.

Stevens was a great player and it sad to see someone die during a workout. He was very young, only 43. RIP Barry Stevens
